wow, you were right about those comments. i loved your responses to that though, Renee. you made very good points, and it's sad that those commenters so easily dismissed them.

i love a good lager, or IPA. my college days forever ruined my ability to consume liquor (can't even smell it anymore without getting sick), but i love my beer. of course i do enjoy a glass of sweet merlot every now and then.

jim gaffigan is a hilarious comedian whose stand-up you may enjoy. he does a lot of food jokes (i think i shared his cake jokes with you at some point). youtube his hot pockets bit; it's one of his more famous ones. that said, i HATE jeff dunham. it's still racist if you use a stupid dummy to say your racist shit! he's got other characters that he uses to make sexist and classist jokes. makes me cringe. god i hate him so much.

i think i like Bill. i like animals with people names lol. my parents found a floofy black undog in Florida a few years ago. he quickly acquired the name Rascal (they tend to favor adjectives for their pets). when i was growing up we had a giant black undog named Barney Bum--he weighed about 16 pounds and was just gorgeous and sweet. he had the same little white tuft that your possible Bill has on his chest. i miss that cat :(

i'll introduce you to my cat. she's 18, her hobbies include yowling for no reason, eating every scrap of food she can find, scratching after she gives the okay to pet, and pooping in my bathtub, on the bathroom floor, or where ever her poop happens to land when she peals out of her litterbox mid-squeeze. this gif is highly satisfying to me for all of the above reasons :P

Womanist Musings : Is It Really All That Embarrassing?

no problem Renee. it irritates me when people offer suggestions on how to deal with grooming my cat, so i felt i had to speak up. i don't get help from my boyfriend because it's understood that all the animals are mine (plus he works a lot). grooming my cat is such an ordeal (ever see Pinky the Cat on youtube? yeah, imagine grooming him). i do the best i can because i know no one else will put up with her, but i don't need someone who's never had experience with an anxious cat telling me what to do. i've had her since i was 6 years old--i think i'm doing okay. grooming is hard work, and given the size of Sookie i can only imagine how tiring it is to do that.

Womanist Musings : Is It Really All That Embarrassing?

i'm not sure i'm going to be able to articulate this well enough, but here it goes: i'm kind of appalled at how many people here are telling Renee what to do/buy for her pet, and what not to do. from the tone of this article i gathered it was just a fun piece expressing a bit of frustration of pet ownership. telling her to spend more money on special vacuums is pretty presumptuous, especially considering how much privilege it takes to even have a pet (which Renee has written about previously). a lot of people are also assuming that shaving an animal is OMG THE WORST THING EVER. i think it's safe to assume that Renee knows her animal well enough to know whether or not she can handle it. my cat, for instance, is a fairly anxious animal and the few times i've had her groomed she was stressed and didn't like it. but she was much happier being free of those painful mats that were pulling on her skin. i recently got a bearded dragon, and am really pissed at the number of people on facebook and in real life that will tell me EVERYTHING I'M DOING WRONG with him despite most of them never having owned a reptile before. these sorts of assumptions are annoying, and reading them here regarding Renee's pet ownership just makes me mad. i don't want to speak for Renee, but from reading her blog i am aware of her disability. telling her to "do some extra vacuuming" is pretty demeaning. ETA: i'm not talking about the info about the animal's actual fur, since that's informative. i'm specifically referring to the judgmental advice from some people.

omg the tumbleweeds! my kitty leaves those for me too. i'm sad to say i'm pretty lax when it comes to grooming her though. she draws blood if i don't pin her down just right, so yeah. i don't have much incentive to brush her because it's unpleasant for both of us.

i don't have a dog, but being the less than proud owner of an excessively fluffy kitty, i will admit to subjecting her to the dreaded "lion cut" on more than one occasion. this is in part because of the mass amounts of fur that she sheds, and also because she hates grooming (seriously, she draws blood almost every time i groom her) and thus her fur becomes matted. so my only option is to shave her. i'll even share some before and after pictures: before: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7ziGnGWYo1Q/StY9lt8EraI... after: http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/127/l... and yes, she is always embarrassed by her nudity. and it probably doesn't help that i insist they leave the little poof at the end of her tail. but i'm just mean that way. so my vote is for shaving the dog. otherwise, make everyone else do the endless brushing. maybe that will change their minds.
