After reading your link, I've kind of become interested in that show ...

I love that for the gargoyles "don't believe everything you see on TV" is an *actually* new and important lesson. :P It was a good comedical moment.

(Sorry for the late late comment.)

I'm tempted to interpret Carrot's honestly horrible subterfuge skillz as a passive-agressive measure to keep his honesty. (Remember in FoC how he instinctively understood the golems' way of "protesting by working"?) He won't disobey the orders to disguise himself, but he won't hide his identity from his own city. So he picks a disguise, but the worst disguise you could possibly think of. You can't get that bad without some creativity.

Maybe, maybe not. Normal people look at the world through a layer of self-presentation, analyzation, and all those things that keep you away from liars and dangerous people, and help you to lie if need be to protect yourself. Does Carrot look at the world through no layer, or two? I can't tell. "Behind Carrot's innocent stare was a steel door."

Thanks; I didn't realize that connection and I've read this book two or three times.

Thanks for the explanation! The only allusions I'd seen before were from a man who actually called himself one - as you might guess, he described the situation along the lines of, "The Hugo awards are being given to people that sacrifice their story to political correctness, and my friends and I are simple people who just want sci-fi, not ideology."

What is "Sad Puppy" a reference to (if someone would like to explain)? I've also seen the phrase said by people who were, I think, talking about some science fiction awards being given to the wrong works/authors? Or something? Apparently it's a conflict in the sci-fi scene, which I don't much interact with.

Vimes being Sarcastic at someone again--my favorite.

Yeah. Before I read Vimes I didn't know watching anger could be fun. Now I find Vimes's anger admirable (when it is), entertaining (when he goes a bit far and dominates a previously-ordinary conversation), and endearing (... always, pretty much).

Professor O'Brien, yes! I loved that detail.
