Defense Tech : Air Force Pilots to Start Flying F-35s This Year

Think the Navy had something called the Devastator that wasn't anywhere near capable either. Course there was also the B-32 Terminator that gobbled up lots of money and was best forgotten, The P-75 Eagle, The Airacuda,... Then in the 50s we had all kinds of failures, less so in the 60s. But back then they cost 1/20th as much as now.

VA Watchdog dot Org -- Home Page - Keeping an eye on the VA because somebody has to! : CONGRESSMAN WANTS GOVERNMENT MONEY TO RENOVATE LEGION, VFW HALLS -- Veterans\' Advocate Jim Strickla

Got a question about 'the money'. Since there are (supposedly) so many Halls throughout the land, would it be a good idea to give it to those Halls with the note that it should be used for the 'good' of the Hall (like you know veteran's camp sites nearby, paying off their bills now and not giving it to the new CO, something other than Bingo, a real VSO that stays and keeps records of his job performance, an accountability card that shows where this 'new money' went. While i was involved with one of them, i noticed they had some good ideas going where they gave out scholarships, help for Vets needing to pay bills or get the electricity shut off, helping needy folks at XMAS time, Volunteer construction for BLDGS, Burial services...etc. Unfortunately a lot of bickering went on too and just about all of these good programs were constantly under fire and led to resignations (for good or bad) all the time. Guess they need to recognize what they are doing, how they do it and can it be run better. How about a Performance Report or Evaluations every year for the post Commanders? It will take a long time though, maybe too late.

Oh yeah as I remember I used to be On the Coral sea and the waist cat always worked. On the Midway, (sister ship) it broke down so much they took it out and only used the two in front. Course then I transferred to the Independence, they had Four cats and the pace was slower cause they had twice as many cats. Less people getting hurt too

Hmmm. There's a thought. How hard would it be to set up this type as opposed to the old steam Catapult. Say in a place where they need planes but not a Carrier? Or the cost benefit ratio?

I have read service manuals in three different services (Navy, Air Force and Army) and yes they are differently written. The way each service works on their planes is also different (environment comes to mind, like the Navy doesn't usually land on ice, the Air Force doesn't land on ships and the Army ain't got no wings. Throw into this mix the fact that oh about every ten years someone on high decides to rewrite how the work is done and written about and / or each manufacturer wants to change things to fit their computer models on maintenance time between failures, flight, mission capability..etc and of course when the boss ain't looking, common sense rears it's ugly head because the troops get tired of going to another meeting to decide how they are going to fix a problem without hiring extra folks or paying overtime. This will not change and it never will.

That's a lot of territory there. ARE you willing to start a war (Bombing a foriegn country before you declare war like Pearl harbor?), just because you want to show them something, like we make better tasting Egg Foo Yung than they do?
That's a good idea , except most battle groups also have submarines (which can't be found) as part of the group (a couple they say). The battle groups talk to satellites which then goes to JCS AND though most people don't realize it, battle groups can fight AND defend at the same time. So while the aircraft and the support group are making swiss cheese out of all those rafts that are two hundred miles away from the carrier (defense in depth you know) because they are radar targets and when those rafts 'light up' the attack radars (which WILL be jammed within .05 seconds) not to mention all that SRBOC stuff. You can be sure that we will know where they started out from and have some harpoons/ tomahawks admonishing them for their behavior. this games been played long ago and guess who won? NAVY! Oh yeah, ever heard of SURTASS?

BakersfieldNow.com : 93-year-old veteran fights for medical benefits | Bakersfield Now - News, Weather and Sports | Inves

Key thing here is his age, 93. Don't think it's easy to get medical insurance at his age without a lot of money. Now how much money do you think he will have if he is seeking VA care? Now, yes he is on Medi-care (which correct me if I'm wrong pays 80%), but right now there are issues with it and some doctors are not taking any more new patients. The whole point of this is that he served during WW2 and he should be entitled to free care (that means 100%) since he paid for it already by serving America in it's 'hour of need' , most of us weren't alive back then and don't realize how hard it was.. There should not be a problem really. Since the National Archives office caught fire in 73 (A long time ago) and apparently has not chosen to rebuild the records during that time (37 years) then it might be solved quicker by sending a message to the Navy memorial in Washington DC and checking their records. Long time ago when i was there I looked at a relative of mine (had his name, date of birth and where he joined) and lo and behold I got it. Of course I knew that his ship blew up in the pacific and his 'body' was never found, but the Navy's records show that he served 20 years and retired. Well i did get his record and left it at that.

It is entitled "Veterans benefits for dummies".. The vawatchdog website, the 38 cfr , the book I just mentioned and truckloads of patience seems to be good for a start for veterans claims. Last I heard, mine is being sent to Washington so I have to wait some more.

Defense Tech : Could the F-35B Really Be Cut?

Can't do it. The fuel they would use is flammable unlike JP8. Also the recip engines are many different parts as opposed to the jet which only has a couple thousand or so. they didn't last nearly as long either, not to mention what they use to shoot down planes nowadays is much bigger, guided and more devastating from back then. You start adding all the comm/ nav / ECM/ armament/ survivable stuff and the airplanes couldn't carry a hand grenade, not to mention they would have to have a nose gear installation.

Seems like they are paving a one way street here. On the one hand since the veteran is talking to the news people about VA 'care' or the (lack of it in this particular area), and the VA is not talking (ergo taking the fifth) then the silence would be deafening and it implies guilt. No they are not the initial perpetrators, but just like if you have an accident and as a result of it are taken to a hospital you would expect care, otherwise you wouldn't go. .
