Modrić wouldn't even sniff the field if he came to Barca, with Xaviesta, Cesc, Busquets, Masche and Thiago already in the team... He would be a second Hleb.

Javi M. on the other hand would be a perfect back up for Busquets AND a player that can play in defence. We have no idea when Abidal returns, we can hope but we are not sure how will Puyol do this season and Pique needs to really step up, because last season wasn't good for him AT ALL. That leaves us with ONE reliable central defender, Javier M.- who isn't even defender. This IS the position that is a priority- central defender/pivot. Striker? Nope. Central midfielder? Don't make me laugh. Left defender we covered with Alba. Backup for Alves- Montoya is definitely ready. This is the only "hole" that we have in the squad. If something happens to let's say both Busquets and Mascherano- we are pretty much buggered... guys like Muniesa, Bartra and/or Fontas can step up from time to time- but... can they do it in Classico? IMO not yet. One day maybe- but not yet.

We are not going to have a large squad so we need a player that will play in both of those positions.

No f***king way.
We need Thiago, Xavi is already 32 and we never know when he may get injured. He was already playing a lot with a knock. We need to have options in midield, so that few players can rest when needed. They can have Keita, but not Thiago. He IS our future.
