I also feel like it would be life changing, but then I think to myself "people in Rome prolly don't think it's all that great." But there's something so magical to me about places that have buildings older than water. We don't have any of that history here, and I really, really need to feel that ancient energy. When I stood in the Grand Place in Brussells, I felt like I was connected to something. I may be waxing poetically, but I just feel that it is so important to experience other places in the world to be a whole human being.

I really, really hope they don’t make any of us look like freaks and weirdos, but it was quite clear to me that the producers/crew did NOT understand our lifestyle, and did not understand the point. When we talked about babywearing, the producer simply could NOT believe that it would be easier for a parent than pushing a stroller. I did my best to explain, but I doubt she was sold. She wasn’t a mother anyway so it didn’t really matter. We’ll see. Fingers crossed!

Oh yes, big dent in debt was our 2009 goal, and we did that. Not much is going to get done on that front this year with me not working (and about to spend 15 grand to try to study abroad! – eek!) Thanks for the link though!

That's so true Amber. I know the boys had fun with the crew, but would they really want every day to be like this for years? No way in hell. I do know that the series are a little different than what we were put through. First of all, when they're shooting a whole series, they actually come in and install lights and equipment in the home which stays there, so they don't have to spend hours putting things up and taking them down. Also, they have more than one camera, which means they don't necessarily have to do all the retakes we did. I think the actual shooting is probably SLIGHTLY (and I mean slightly) easier to do if it's a series as opposed to something that's one-off. Still though - I really cannot understand how people live that way for an extended period of time, especially the celebrity part. When we were being filmed walking out of the zoo, I heard a bunch of girls yelling "oh my god, they're celebrities!!!!" and I was totally humiliated. I felt like a total lame-ass. Not a good feeling.

I totally agree about the color coding. I really dislike the way that everything appears to be either pink or blue. Try finding a sippy cup that's not one or the other. Can't their be any color neutrality in childrens' items?

Thanks Amy - yes, that's what I meant by "those who have never parented a pre-schooler." I think some people think they've got this parenting gig all figured out when the child is a baby - but that's because babies are EASY compared to a child who is mobile and able to calculate. Once that child turns 2, all bets are off.

Andy, I never said my style wasn't "AP." I do consider myself AP in the broadest sense of the term, but I will not label myself as an attachment parent because I don't like labels, and because I don't like pigeon-holing my parenting into one box. It's the people who think "AP" means never, ever disciplining a child (and yes, they certainly do exist, and write whole articles about it) that I consider to be the most judgmental and narrow minded.
