RIHANNA DAILY : Drake's "Take Care" music video feat. Rihanna

An interesting video, but it falls flat where it tries to be artsy. I would've loved to see Rih & Drake tell more of a story. It is what it is. Now, I'm waiting for POC & WHYB, which will top this np.

RIHANNA DAILY : The Road to "Talk That Talk" Parts 1 and 2

The thing I love about Rihanna is that I can relate to her: sense of humour, family relationships and community ties & most importantly, that she stays true to her roots. Although she's an international pop star, Rih is still recognizable to the people she loves, and that is a rarity when people become accustomed to fame. I appreciate these videos because they are from HER standpoint & not that of a tabloid/blogsite. It's nice to see how far she's come & how much she values the support of her fans. Rihanna may have just released her 6th album, but she's only recently come into her own & distinguished herself as a top international artist. I look forward to seeing further growth in her music & performances, as well as other aspects of her brand (I'm patiently awaiting that new perfume, lol).

RIHANNA DAILY : Rebelle by Rihanna now available at Belk.com

This makes me soo happy! I'm quite the perfume junkie.... always looking to expand my collection. I didn't really like Reb'l Fleur upon first sniff. I am not a big fan of coconut, for some reason my stomach can't handle it, and this being a prominent note in RF, i decided not to buy it. However, I saw the gift set on sale one day & I bought it. No regrets! The coconut has grown on me & RF is one of my fave perfumes atm. Rebelle has some pretty interesting notes & the coffee note in the base is enough to warrant a purchase! Needless to say, I will actually give it a chance this time. Rihanna & her perfume team have proven themselves with Reb'l Fleur. If only I didn't have to wait so long to see this in Canadian shops.

Yes, it's all really the price of fame, unfortunately. And, I'm sure she's well aware of it. That's not what I'm concerned with. The obsession to know everything about celebrities was there before Rihanna and it will be there long after. That still leaves me where I began. Yes, I know what my favourite artists do when they aren't "working" because TMZ got a photo of them. If they are representing a lifestyle that I cannot agree with, guess what, I leave them alone. No heartache, no loss. Unfortunately, some of these famous folks are real people who are going to do things that the masses aren't going to agree with as the cameras watch them 24/7.What can you do? Either accept this, keep complaining or, I don't know, support artists that have squeaky clean public images/public images you can agree with. I, knowing I have no influence on someone else's behaviour, choose not to cry over the outfits she wears clubbing or what she does on her trips to Hawaii. And why should I? It makes absolutely no difference & only creates hostility. If you want to complain, by all means, but don't expect her (some people have a really strange sense of entitlement) to change her behaviour to satisfy you.

Rihanna as a popular musician will without a doubt influence young girls, I agree with you that this is inevitable. Considering that, I can totally get why some people are unhappy with her public image. I just have a different view: it isn't Rihanna's job to make sure children aren't influenced by her music; that's what parents are for. Rihanna's music isn't any more damaging than other popular artists out there. If it isn't Rihanna, it's going to be someone else. I respect Rihanna's choice to capitalize off her sexuality. Her music is supposed to be fun, flirty, sexy; I don't view that as a bad thing because I know exactly what I'm getting; & that is exactly what I look for in a pop/dance artist. If I want to listen to someone with a stronger voice, I have a shit load of other amazing artists in my itunes. Rihanna has her limitations, but I like what she has to offer. I wholeheartedly disagree with your last statement. When I went to the LOUDtour this summer, Rihanna was in total command of the stage, her vocals were pretty good, dancing on point & atmosphere exciting. This is from personal experience. I understand that Rihanna doesn't have the vocal skills of Adele, but she has an amazing stage presence & knows how to entertain her audience. It was honestly one of the best concerts I've attended and I've been to some excellent shows in the past. Anyway, you are totally right that we could continue this debate for years, lmao! But I've been allowing myself to be distracted from finishing this paper for long enough, haha. Sorry about my earlier comments, I shouldn't have been so quick to launch an attack. I enjoyed this discussion! Cheers. :)

I don't care if you dislike RIhanna. For every fan, she has a handful of people who think she ain't shit. Your opinions are not new or fresh. It's all been said before. BTW, i don't know you, so I cannot hate you. I may not like what you have to say, but don't take it to heart, we don't know each other personally. This is an industry that thrives on the marketability of image & appearance as well as ability (singing, acting). Of course she uses her sex appeal. Very few women are separated from their looks. It's not just Rihanna who counts on her looks to market herself. Life is a competition, Rian. No one who is serious about making it in any profession is going to allow anything to get in the way of a million dollar contract, for example. I'm not sure if it's been documented how close she was with those girls, but I would be surprised if they did not do the same if the roles were reversed. In terms of the content of Rihanna's music, i've said in other comments that I like the sexually explicit nature of her work. You say that it degrades women & that is a view I can respect & understand. Personally, I see a lot of her music to be empowering for women. The reason for this is because Rihanna isn't afraid of her sexuality & has a sexually liberated voice in her music. She puts herself front & centre of her sexual experiences. Rihanna is a sex positive artist. I don't expect every person or woman to be comfortable with such a bold display of sexuality, but i love that she is confident in her skin. I don't think sex is a bad thing; we are all sexual beings & as a young woman I appreciate artists like Rihanna who have a strong & unashamed sexual presence. Rihanna is not a sell out for talking about her sexuality. Women like Janet Jackson & Madonna were icons of female sexuality for women in their generation & Rihanna is no different. I really have no interest in debating album sales, and whatever else you might have brought up because I don't actually pay much attention to the charts. I know that I alone cannot influence them in any way so I just enjoy her music. You brought up some interesting points, but I think you are dancing around the original point of discussion. You may not like Rihanna, but her work ethic speaks for itself. You're just going to have to accept that this her time off she can do with it whatever she pleases. She'll be back to work soon enough. The funny things is, people have been saying for a while now that Rihanna will not get anywhere, but she is one of the most decorated artist of the last 5 years. I don't think a break from her career is going to detract from the major success she's experienced thus far. She still has many years ahead of her and I can only wish her the best.

Yes, there ARE boundaries between the two, however conflated they are by tabloid culture. Ah,I believe we have pinpointed your problem! There are no such inconsistencies, i'm afraid, only your inability to discern said boundaries. It's a shame things are so black & white for you. Surely, one can enjoy the goods & brand (albums, concerts, perfume, the personality, etc) while understanding that these artists don't live for us when they aren't obligated to work, (although people have the unreasonable expectation that they should). If you are unhappy or offended in light of learning that she does x,y,z, on her personal time, feel free to divest your support, monetary or otherwise. Simple as that. #lifegoeson Glad we figured that out. ;)

Again, how cute. ;) The reality is, however you feel about strippers( cheap or otherwise) Rihanna is going to dress as she please and somehow, I get the feeling that she doesn't give a flying fuck if you(or anyone else) view her as tasteless. *Kanye shrug* I will reiterate, I respect her right to self-determination and in doing so, won't impose on her life as if I am a factor in it. It's very straightforward, actually. This is where you need to reevaluate your definition of sheep, lol. I think the word, realist, would be more suitable. Here's why: I am very well aware of my position as the consumer & Rihanna as the artist who's goods & brand I buy into because i like what she produces. Although you make a legitimate claim that she is a " dream merchant", her job as an entertainer technically does not transcend the tracks on her cd, her performances, or any other scenario in which she is WORKING. If people feel short-changed than perhaps they should not have invested so much where their money is worthless: her personal life. She is entitled to one, no? Despite the delusions tabloid culture seems to have instilled in folks, I'm not going to pretend I am entitled to anything more than a peak at her paparazzi photos. Of course people judge what they see, but those judgements are purely subjective and in the grand scheme of things, have no influence on Rihanna. I have been consistent with my views, an interesting contrast to the fickle nature of the comments on this site. I'm sorry hun, I'm not going to join the detractor club just because Sandra Rose or TMZ tells me Rihanna is a drug-addict/alcoholic after seeing photos of her smoking on her vacation (yes, let's send her & the countless other people who drink or smoke weed socially to rehab, they are such addicts). After all, scandal sells magazines, so why not demonize her, right?

LOL, that's cute. Feel better now? Sheep? No. Rather, I believe in every person's right to self-deterimination, even if they are public figures. You don't like how she dresses? Boo fucking hoo. I don't think she had you in mind when she was getting dressed in her "stripper" outfit.
Thanks for the compliment! I'll admit that my words are better suited towards something else, but it's not as time consuming as you think, lol. People just see big blocks of text & assume it takes a long time to write. I'm currently studying for mid-terms (i'm a university student) and this is a welcomed distraction from studying/ writing papers. I mean, I keep tabs on the site without the intention of engaging in redundant debates, but I respond to those who have thoughts on my comments. It isn't very productive, haha, but we all have our guilty pleasures. I appreciate the concern, but I'm doing very well in my academic career, most importantly, as well as other aspects of my life. :)

And Rihanna is only 24. She began her career at 16, 17 years old. Tell me, what exactly were you doing at that age? I'm sure most people still live with their mothers at 16 & by 24 are just beginning to break off into the real world as independent adults. You will likely not have the kind of pressure Rihanna experiences on a daily basis simply because most folks have laws protecting their privacy in ways Rih doesn't. It's easy to judge from afar, isn't it?

Go back and read my comments, moron. I stated that Rihanna works hard and as such, deserves to do whatever she pleases on her time off. If you understood that as RIhanna, "moaning about how hard life is," not only are YOU the stupid tool, but you also need to work on your reading comprehension skills. All due respect to Bono, but just b/c he has no problem managing his job (which he's been doing for decades), that does not reflect on everyone else in the music industry. To say that one's career is demanding is not moaning. So, you can save that Bono quote for another discussion. You are entitled to your opinion, but to argue that her career is "easy" is absurd. YES, her career is demanding. That has nothing to do with whether she enjoys it or not because she has stated plenty of times that she LOVES what she does & thus, does not view it as work. Again, you are a fool to say that Rihanna has a simple work-life just because Bono says his job is easy. You are great at making illogical inferences, lmao! What, do you believe a 9-5 work schedule is the only thing a difficult career comprises of? Please think before you post. The majority of people who are accustomed to this structured routine wouldn't last a month trying to navigate Rihanna's chaotic schedule (or any international artist as sought-after as Rih). Not to mention the fact that everything she does is heavily scrutinized. The average person doesn't have cameras following their every move; that alone is stressful enough. You enjoy your freedom & privacy don't you? I personally wouldn't trade that in just to live in a bubble like Rihanna does. I enjoy being able to leave my home without body-guards or having to constantly shield my face. Obviously, her career comes with a lot of perks & it is something millions of people desire to do, but there is nothing easy about sleeping in a different hotel every night, being in the studio all night, touring all over the world to perform concerts & do promotional work, etc, Most people would burnout quick because it's an erratic lifestyle & that is why plenty of celebrities, be they actors, artists, etc, succumb to the pressures of being in the entertainment industry.

You're the one who has a problem with her enjoying her down time, we're just defending her right to do whatever the fuck she wants. And please, continue speaking from behind your computer, you know exactly what it's like to be in her position, right?

Let me just add to that and say that a lot of people in GENERAL (not just singers) smoke weed. Occasionally smoking marijuana doesn't make you a drug addict. The people making these comments must be 15 or something. Marijuana is almost as common as alcohol depending on where you party, especially if you have money. You may not agree with it, but don't delude yourself into thinking Rihanna is unique in this.

Going to a night club 3 nights in a week, if that, is not considered partying every night. Fyi, going to basketball games is hardly considered "partying", lol. She isn't obligated to work so she's enjoying her leisure time. I'll say to you what I say to everyone who seems to have vicariously taken on the role of her mother. So what? Last time I checked, she owes people absolutely NOTHING on her FREE TIME. Why is that so hard for folks to understand? She released her album & completed her world tour.
