I will make an assertion here that I know not everyone will agree on. Let me know if you agree or disagree.

I contend that most, if not all, the affronts to our Constitution (more precisely the pre-1913 version) were enabled by the 16th Abomination that opened the door to the scourge of direct taxation (ie income-based taxation). Without that, Congress would have had no way to confiscate the money neccessary to even contemplate what BOTH the Democrats and the GOP have inflicted on us over the last 96 years.

Thus, to lament bailouts, over-spending, unConstitutional wars, open borders, etc will never mean much unless direct taxation is once again outlawed as Article 1 Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution clearly states. Our Founders were adamant on this point.
