On the longevity: 1) Ethnic minorities here(US) don’t live as long, not sure why – smoking, drugs alcohol, crime, genetics, habits, health insurance, some/all of the above? 2) We also have drug/gang wars, that pulls the number down. 3) I have heard that people who immigrate here from Europe have better longevity than if they had stayed in Europe. The competition is forced to keep up and they can learn by imitating what is successful. Original Social Security and Medicare cost estimates were off by a factor of 10. CBO estimates Gov Healthcare will cost $1.6 trillion. If the past predicts the future, this will be $16 trillion. Comparing a million dollar CEO bonus to Gov Healthcare is like comparing $25 to a $640 million dollar lottery. Have a little perspective, please. My HMO is less than $200/month with $5000 deductible. Preventive Maintenance procedures are free: colonoscopy, blood tests etc. Seems darn cheap to me, upkeep for the car and the dog are more expensive.
