GazetteOnline.com : Cedar Rapids car peppered with gunshots

Nit-picky me!! The car is either "peppered" (many) with gunshots, or it has "several" (about three) gunshots.

Not to be a grouch, but I hate to see dogs hanging out of car windows. Does anyone ever think what happens to the dog in a collision?...out the window, through the windshield..broken back or neck...If you aren't sensible enough to secure your pet for safety's sake, you shouldn't have one. Would you let your two-year-old hang halfway out your car window? Of course not! Then why is it ok for your dog?

How irresponsible! I suppose the contractor will agree to purify the water table, replace the tainted soil, and replant the whole area? Not. What does their contract read? We will control weeds along this easement by any means necessary!! outrageous.

This is a nice story. Thanks, Nathan, and thanks Gazette for reporting this. I read about the fungus decimating the North American brown bat population in the national news this past week, and here is someone "in my backyard" addressing this ....awesome.

She knew enough to launder the money. I may not be that well-balanced, but I wouldn't have the first idea how to "launder" stolen money.

You're right. I shouldn't make such sweeping generalizations. I assume you mean that marijuana is not harmful to liver or brain functioning. But pesticides, herbicides, and the various "coatings" on marijuana that is grown for profit cause liver damage and have been shown to "increase fibrosity in patients with Hepatits C." And, inhaling the products of combustion in itself is carcinogenic (lungs, not liver). But I'm talking about abuse. A glass of red wine a day is good for you, a fifth of scotch a day will kill you, eventually. As for brain functioning...why would someone with two bags of marijuana in his car, some ecstasy, and other drug sale items be caught speeding? He's high.

Both alcohol and marijuana are equally dangerous substances. Both are extremely disruptive to brain and liver functioning when abused. Now that medicinal marijuana has been legalized in some states (and look at the result...Montana, California), there's really no going back. Look at prohibition.

GazetteOnline.com : Historic buildings face deadline; smokestack efforts move ahead

I say tear down the Linn County Historical Society building which is the ugliest thing I've ever seen and build a medical mezanine there. I hate to see all of these lovely old homes get torn down. It totally figures that we would keep an eyesore like a smokestack and yet not help move some of these fabulous old homes. Most of the new construction planned for this city is ugly. Did you catch the NEWBO market complex? Looks like some ridiculous roadside attraction in Florida. I don't want to waste money on these surreal structures that will pass out of fashion and look like faded, junky stripmalls in five years. Why can't we get some input from some builders with some experience in revitalizing historic places, or at least some class? What happened to "trees line our paths?" 'Course what appeals to clowns? Circus. I suppose we should change out the city buses to Shriner cars. It's beginning to look like a Pee Wee Herman nightmare around here.
