Political thrillers, mystery novels, and science fiction all have something in common. They inspire reflection upon the human race. Science fiction in particular, because they can provide this reflection in context that doesn't seem to be about us until the story plays out.

This current step is reminding me of J. Michael Strazynski's Babylon 5 series. Particularly the moves to develop a group of 'patriots' to protect earth from internal and external threats, known as 'the nightwatch'. This civilian homeland security force reminds me of this. They were patterned in the story after the Hitler Youth and the brown shirts. Any student of history knows how that turned out, can we let this happen in our country? I say no, we have work against this.

I think it is only because the election is over, and it's not needed to keep the sticker on any longer. I took off my Palin sticker the next morning. I don't need to have those things on my car, some are funny but they mess up the look. Though I am thinking of getting a Ron Paul sticker so I can be recognized as a militia member, muhahaha (jk)

Deterance. An ARMED society is a polite society. I am a proponant of gun control. I believe every one who purchases a gun should train with it, become comfortable with it, know it's workings intimately. Gun control is knowing how to properly use, when to properly use, and keeping posession of the firearm in defense of self and others. Gun control is hitting your target, and removing the threat.

I remind everyone that even liberals can be gun owners. Look at New Orleans, legal gun owners stayed in their homes to defend what was theirs. However, they all gave up their guns when the military came for them. And none have gotten them back.

I dissent. I have god given rights to "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Our constitution is a document laid down to protect our rights from government infringement. Our forefather's saw that a people without the freedom to speak out, or the ability to defend themselves is subject to slavery. Slaves no longer have ownership of their lives, lost their liberty and cannot pursue happiness. I have a god given right to Life, and thus the necessary tools to defend that right follow. The same with Liberty. What is needed to defend ourselves with is the equivilent to what those who would wish to take them from us have. Thus, military grade hardware is a right, derrived from the god given rights.

Man, things have gone so far, it's hard to imagine trying to pull it back in without the whole thing collapsing in on us. We have such a rich history with our armed forces, and I don't see how we could ever reduce them enough to be constitutional, and not invite a foreign army to attack us.

I dissent. Much harder to maintain eyes on target using a bolt action than a semi-auto.

Full Auto on the other hand, has only military application. Since in the minds of the founders every able bodied man with a firearm in a state constitutes the state's militia, and the state of the art in military weaponry is capable of automatic fire it is appropriate for the militia to have these for defense of their homes and homeland.
