If you'd just asked me I would have provided! Much like the Ring of Power in LotR, you get a lot of indirect hints throughout the story. UNLIKE LotR I leave out a lot of its painful exposition, but I think they're comparable in that I don't deal too much with directly showing what happened in the past and more showing the present aftereffects. It's a slice of a much larger narrative.

Also like Tolkien, I provided a large document detailing backstory that didn't belong in the story - the iceberg of which the story itself is a tip.

Moreover, though you seem to have missed some clear in-story explanations which would have answered your concerns, but it WAS a very long novel so I can see how you might have.

I loved the episode, aside from the Rainbow Power designs, and the location of the new castle (mountains around Ponyville would have been much less tacky)

Also, one thing that bugged me... how Tirek didn't know about Twilight. Why didn't they assume Discord would tell him? How did he not hear about it while he was on the run?
That line was just baffling.
