I know-I've struggled with active writing too. For us, talking through the writing assignment first before writing helps. (Or sometimes instead of writing.) We've also written scripts for Lego guys to act out. Writing about topics of interest definitely helps. I was thinking of adding a treasure hunt activity to the next packet I make, so I'm glad to hear those are working well for you. Do you have a blog post about them? I'd love to see how you do it.
