Comic Book Noise : Ignorance Really Is Bliss

Great comments Derek. I am very disinterested in the ins and outs of the industry and gossip about the creators as well. I would rather just read what I want and enjoy the stories being told. I don't worry about continuity being messed with too much either. I just go along for the ride and enjoy the stories for what they are.

Comic Book Noise : 2 People Talking 21: Angie Loves Skype

Conner is alive as of Legion of 3 Worlds actually, resurrected via Kryptonian chrysalis thingie and the use of Lex Luthor DNA by Brainiac 5. That's the Superboy from Adventure Comics. I believe this is the same Legion that appeared in the recent Superman and the Legion of Super Heroes story arch. They are back to being Superman's old friends from his childhood again as of that storyline.

Listened to this last night. Just wanted to post a quick note to Derek. The new Adventure Comics does in fact have the Legion in it. I think Angela said it didn't. The first issue story focused on Starman, but there will be more Legion stuff coming into that part as well as the Superboy part if the "coming soon" page is any indication. Right now the Legion is the backup feature, with Superboy as the main. But DC have said that they will switch places at some point, with Legion being the feature and Superboy the backup.

I noticed Amy Reeder Hadley was back on Madame Xanadu for the issue in October, possibly she is on the the September one also. I didn't notice the solicit that month but the October issue said part 2 of a story arch. By the way, I started reading volume 1 this week.

Movie Noise : Movie Noise 26: Twilight and Let The Right One In

Hey Derek. I enjoyed the episode. Glad you liked Let the Right One In. Here's some things I learned about the movie after watching it that might be useful for you to know. First, in the book the dad is not gay but an alcoholic. That is what is supposed to be portrayed in the movie too. A lot of people thought he was meant to be gay, to the confusion of the director. I thought he was gay too for the record. Second, the "nude" shot was actually faked. It was either CG or a dummy, I can't remember which they said. Also, there is more to the story of Eli the vampire than was let on in the movie and which is fleshed out in the book. Did you noticed the scar in the area that was shown? In the book, as Eli was being turned into a vampire, he/she was also castrated. So Eli is actually a boy. I think there may be some deleted scenes from the movie somewhere that explains this.

Comic Book Noise : Comic Book Noise 168: Love and Rockets FCBD Edition

Good episode, but one thing I was hoping for was for you to tell us what Love & Rockets is really about. From what you are saying it sounds like it is a slice of life type thing set in the punk rock community? Am I right in this? Are there any sci-fi, fantasy or horror elements mixed in or is it just "normal" people?

I didn't think Super Ugly's real name was a big secret. But maybe that's because I have met him. Though I am sure they have said it on the Geek Savants podcast too. His name is John Williams and he really is a good guy.

Congrats on the sponsor Derek. So does this sponsorship apply to only the shows you host or all the Comic Book Noise Family? Just wondering if we should be mentioning it on the other shows too. Anyway, fun episode. I really wish I could get in the chat room whenever you guys are recording but it seems like I am either asleep or at work when it happens. You never see me complaining about comic prices because I ma one of those mail order guys too. I will say that I am happy that at least DC is putting in those co-features to help justify the price hike.

Comic Book Noise : Comic Book Noise Episode 160: Watchmen Movie Feedback

First off, the lady who wrote that Watchmen review you linked to is a stupid douche who doesn't deserve the extra attention given to her from linking to it. She doesn't get it at all and is guilty of the same insults she throws at the people who enjoyed the movie (that is "idiot" and "moron", etc.). She actually thinks just because there were trailers of the movie during American Idol that it was targeted at kids. She is a self-righteous bitch who knows nothing and needs to get off her high horse. Any good parent would do their research and know their kid well enough to judge whether their kid can handle the movie. It's a rated R movie, give people the benefit of common sense please. Ugh, I am so pissed off and I wish I had never read her article. Second, sorry I missed your call for reviews of the movie. You should have posted something on Twitter or the forums too. Or maybe you did and I just missed it. Anyway, Mike and I talked about it on DC Noise 31 so if you want to hear what we thought you can listen to that when it comes out.

Comic Book Noise : Comic Book Noise 158: What I Am

No it's cool. I know what you were saying wasn't some kind of accusation or whatever. I just wanted to say where I stand on the subject. I do understand your point that a lot of podcasters and others do try to avoid the terms comic books. I don't know if it's people in the industry necessarily who are guilty of this but definitely whenever there is a movie made like in Jason's 2nd example there is a glaring omission of saying "comic book". However I have seen and heard some creators refer to their comic books as "sequential art", which always seemed a little snooty to me.

I've never been ashamed to tell people I read comic books. But I also mostly just say "comics" mostly because I just don't think about it like being ashamed or whatever to say "comic books." That's why I didn't use those words in the DC Noise show description I sent you. I never even thought about using them to help with the search terms in iTunes.
