I wish I could remember, it was several years ago and I've done about five different Beth Moore studies! But I remember that moment in the video. Maybe Kristy will remember, I hope!

Unless we're an egomaniac (entirely different problem!) we are hardest on ourselves. I know it's much easier for me to forgive someone else rather than forgive myself. In my head I know that God has forgiven me, and I have to keep repeating that because my heart is stubborn about hanging on to bad things. And what about when you've hurt someone who won't forgive you? It's easy to say that God forgives you, but when you have someone around wearing their hurt like a badge it's a constant reminder.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : When people apologize for swearing around you.

I also would rather have people feel comfortable around me. That doesn't mean I'd want them to cuss like Chris Rock doing a stand-up routine though. One thing that helps *me* right now is my 2 year old. There's nothing that wakes you up more than when you're frustrated and say "damn (insert inanimate object that made you mad)". Then you hear a little voice parroting you....and you have visions of him in the nursery at church cussing like a sailor.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Fearing your prayer request isn’t “big enough.”

I really wish I could burst into a small study group or a Sunday School class (mine only has 4 people, we started a new one) and ask this very question! Yeah, I said burst....I have visions of myself whirling into the room and setting people free of their fear of the "insignificant prayer request". Like THAT will ever happen- I'm the one thinking "Potty training my son is not as important as 'Debbie's' lost job and crumbling marriage". Which, by the way, we could start a Christian Moms Potty Training Prayer Chain, that would be great! Anyway, once again I'm so glad I found this blog! Every time I read it I say to myself "Oh yeah! I so totally agree!" thanks Jon!

I guess I can be the first to commit- it's easy since I have a 2 year old and I know when his naptime (usually) is. So I will take 1-2 pm central time. My prayer request is for my father. He has vascular dementia (sort of like Alzheimer's, but with a different cause and not as treatable). Right now he's still not too bad. Please pray he doesn't get worse; please pray for my mother who has to deal with this; please pray for my younger sister who is having a hard time accepting this. His name is John. Oh, and my "real" name is Pam. Thank you.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Hope.

Jon, you have really hit the nail on the head with the three stages of hope you outlined. I wish I could've had this nine years ago. Instead, I was a brand-new Christian and all I could do was put it ALL in God's hands. The only hope I had was that He wants what is best for me. So looking back I can definitely see how my hope evolved through those steps you have shown. It's eerie, it's wonderful....it reinforces my faith.

I'm right there with you! I've finally realized that when my 2 year old is in school all day I will miss him. Not every day is a magical Lifetime movie event, but living in the moment is much better than constantly thinking of what I can't do now instead of what I can do.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Smoking or not smoking, definitely one of those two.

Maybe the proper question could've been something like- Are you a *better* Christian because you don't smoke as compared to a Christian who does? Because I'm not stupid, I know I shouldn't smoke, but I get the feeling that some people feel like they're closer to God than I am.

Should Christians smoke? Should they drink alcohol? Should they be singing in their car to "Hips Don't Lie"? (I've never heard that song, but thought it would make a good example). No one should smoke, Christian or not. But I don't think smoking will prevent you from being a Christian. We don't have the Church of the Perfect People in my town, do you? I've known plenty of Christians who smoke. They don't flaunt it for sure. In fact, only ONE person at my church knows that *I* smoke. Yeah, I smoke. I definitely wish I didn't. I had actually quit for 3 years. I won't go into the reasons why I started again, that doesn't matter. I'm just saying that I feel the need to hide my smoking from my "church" friends. I feel ashamed about it. Does that make it sinful? I don't know. Some people are born with an addictive-prone personality, that's my belief. And those few wonderful years as a non-smoker were awesome. I plan on doing it again, someday....someday...

Honesty is a valuable thing, no doubt. But DON'T tell your wife her butt looks like it's getting bigger....and then play the "don't you want me to be honest with you" card. Remember the old saying, if you can't say something nice then don't say anything. When your wife tells you that you were snoring, DON'T tell her "But I wasn't even sleeping". Unless of course you snore like that while laying there wide awake, which I seriously doubt. When you actually do housework type things around the house, DON'T announce each one like you need a standing ovation. "I loaded the dishwasher". applause!! "I put jeans in the washer". applause! "I took out the trash." applause! If I did that, we would never talk about anything else. I'm ragging on the husbands here, I need to say a few things about the wives. Hmmm. Let me think. I'm coming up blank here, maybe my husband needs to do this. But we've been married almost 25 years so I'm sure he would have *something* to say. As for the "ask me to do this for you"- I might try that. We have a 2 year old son and it might be early enough to try that on him when he's a little older. Moms are great at bringing on guilt feelings.
