Let me ask you, if someone held up an old Nazi German flag with Hitler's picture on it, or perhaps Cambodian flag with Pol Pot's image, or maybe a Soviet flag with Lenin or Stalin on it, would it be fair to question their motives? This isn't about race, or ethnicity, or really even immigration, it is about ideology. Those expressing an anti-American one versus those who wish to protect the country.
