I bought my airline tickets to Mardi Gras 2006 in the beginning of August 2005, a few weeks before Katrina came ashore. So much noise was made about what was going on in New Orleans in September, then so little was actually done later. I was in New Orleans about six months later and was amazed at how bad things still were in the ninth ward where so much damage was done by water flooding through a broken levee. The lack of support then and now is awful.

I think being Catholic in this situation is a lot like being an American under George W Bush. You think the leadership are assholes who have done criminal things, but what can you do? I didn't leave America, I still participate in the system even though the current crop of assholes hasn't done anything about the last crop. I could see that Catholics could say that the Pedo Pope is an evil criminal but still feel the institution should go on. Even if the next asshole was also a kiddie-fucker-enabler.

I think that the ACLU is spot on here. If the school policy is to allow full-on free speech, they have to take the good with the bad under that policy. If the school chooses to restrict free speech, as many do, then the school will need to publish a policy of what is restricted and it must apply equally.

No, even if it were held near my home, I wouldn't attend. Convention attending just isn't something I enjoy.

Well, "apostate" is technically correct for what you want, but I dislike all those negative connotations like "rat" and "traitor". "Atheist" works fine for me.
