GrassrootsPA : Meehan & Lentz spar over Specter's defeat, taxes, debates...

Meehan got 9 thousand more votes then Lentz did when the home town congressman (Sestak) and state senator (Anthony Williams) were competing in competitive statewide primaries. Lentz will be crushed in the fall.

If people in the SE want to help Tim Burns, Pat Meehan's office is hosting a phone bank tonight, next Wendnesday and the Saturday and Sunday before the special election. I know tonight it is from 7-9 in their office in Drexel Hill.

GrassrootsPA : Freind: Should Philly GOP boss Michael Meehan be disbarred?...

Until Meehan and Canuso are thrown out of the Philly GOP, any Republican candidate running statewide will have a very tough time winning. Also a viable Philadelphia Republican party is critical for congressional, state senate and state house races across the country. With the one party dominance in Philadelphia, the Dem candidates there can raise money for their "own" reelection, but since many have no viable challengers (if a challenger at all) they bundle their money to Democratic candidates elsewhere in the state. Sadly all Meehan and Canuso are interested in is keeping their feifdom of patronage and legal fees, these allegations if investigated will hopefully lead to a regime change.

GrassrootsPA : Michael Meehan elected GOP SE Caucus Chair...

I believe Nick was trying to bring up Corbett because Skip has been giving him behind the scenes support and this was viewed as a repudiation of the power people like Skip and Asher have. However Meehan is anything but an outsider as several people have mentioned above. Again that is the problem with this contest, 2 bad choices mean we are stuck with a bad result.

You hit the nail on the head perfectly, this has nothing to do with the proliferation of guns, this law has nothing to do with stopping the theft of guns, just the reporting that they were stolen, the people on this council obviously never took a logic course. Cheap publicity stunt that is becoming far too common across the commonwealth.

You are baffled because you don't get why Gerlach is running. He wants to be able to do something, he isn't trying to set himself up for another position, he wants to be governor and is in the race to win it, whether he does is a different story. The same people who trash are the same who assume he has an ulterior motive.

GrassrootsPA : Rendell jokes about raising PA's tax on beer...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the johnstown flood tax. When Johnstown flooded in 1936 the state enacted a "temporary" 10% tax on all alcohol to fix the city. A meager 30 years passed and the state legislature raised it to 15% in 1963, when no one stood up and said anything they raised it again in 1968 to 18%. This is of course before the 6% sales tax. This is just another example of how once the government gets their hands in your pockets they only dig in deeper.

Bond ratings do not just change overnight. If you look at Montco's finances you will see they have blown through all of their surplus money by ironically taking out more bonds. These same bonds will now have an increased interest % when the bond rating goes down (which it will next year) and the county will be forced to raise taxes to make up for the fiscally irresponsible policies of Hoeffel and Matthews.
