Restoring to custom ipsw file means using the file that's created by the Pwnage Tool to restore your phone. Restoring with custom ipsw file only jailbreaks your phone; however, with a jailbroken phone you can access Cydia where you can download Ultrasn0w to unlock your phone (assuming your BB is at 04.26.08 or lower)

Thanks for the heads up. I'm using a 3GS from the US on Softbank as well. Been using it for about 4 weeks now but have not received any messages from Softbank yet. Your statement is making me feel very uneasy. How did they notified you? SMS, Email or a call? I love the speed of the 3GS and sure hate to have to go back to using the 3G. But if they're checking, I may have to do just that.

I truly believe this symptom is caused by apps installed from Cydia, especially apps running under Mobile Substrates. You may want to experiment by deleting all apps installed through Cydia and observe your battery life. If your battery improves then you know that one of the Cydia apps is the culprit. I jailbreak mainly to unlock my iPhone and install only a few apps from Cydia. With each jailbreak I've always restored from a back up and have never had a problem. I can go through a 16-hour day with moderate phone use and still have 40% battery left at the end of the day. Try deleting those apps. I think you'll be surprised by the outcome.

This happens to me from time to time, especially after a fresh restore. You need to reset your network settings by going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings; this will reboot your phone. After reboot, before connecting to any local wifi, go outside and launch the Map application. GPS should lock on almost immediately. After you get a good lock you can then reconnect to your local wifi. Works for me 100% of the time. Good luck.

I truly believe it has to do with what apps you have installed from Cydia. I JB mainly to unlock my 3GS and installed only a few apps from Cydia. I even restored from a backup and I'm not experiencing any battery problems. In fact, the battery in my 3GS is far better than that of my 3G. To verify this, you should leave your phone jailbroken but uninstall all Cydia apps and observe your battery life. If the battery life improves then you know one of the Cydia apps was the culprit.

I agree with @Cofi. I have 5 apps running under MobileSubstrate and I've not experienced any adverse effects with the battery on my 16GB 3GS.

Yes he did. Here's a quote from his tweet "to clarify, both ra1n and sn0w of the purple variety work on the 3.0 3GS only"

This is most likely caused by Tricker3G or VoIPover3G apps from Cydia. Uninstall these and your problems should go away.

Did you install Tricker ThreeG from Cydia? It's been reported that this program causes the App Store not to work. Try uninstalling it. Also, Installous will work if you go into settings and select "dirty" installation.

Yes. This is how I did it on 2 of my iPhones on Docomo's network 1. Reboot with Docomo Foma SIM card installed 2. Wait 2 minutes after reaching "home screen" then remove SIM card 3. Wait 10 seconds then reinsert SIM card. 4. Signal shows after 5 seconds

Wait 10 seconds then reinsert SIM card. 4. Signal shows after 5 seconds. I was able to unlock two iphones using this method.
