Fire Brand of the American League : All-Aughts Team of the Decade CF: Johnny Damon

Why does nobody have faith in Wake. I will take Timmy over most of the slobs mentioned. Unless it is a stud, stay put. Bedard pitched awful tonight. Why trade anybody for a guy who cannot stay healthy? They should see what Shill and Pedro are doing...maybe Clemens is bored now????

Fire Brand of the American League : Terry Francona confirms Jacoby Ellsbury move to left field

"Hopefully, Rizzo being dealt to San Diego is another sign ... that the Red Sox notion of signing high school first baseman ...to six figures was a mistake and is over."

Actually, no, since Rizzo helped us get AGon, the trade shows that signing hs first basemen is a great way to get guys who can put up good numbers at AA at 20

Fire Brand of the American League : Red Sox and Adrian Beltre Agree to Terms

How about the fact that he is a career .216 hitter from the left side of the plate, where he will get the majority of his at-bats?

He hit righties better than lefties in the minors. His wrist injury reduced his lefty numbers a ton. Jed will make your projetions look bad IMO.

Fire Brand of the American League : Evan Brunell's 2010 MLB Predictions: Does Boston win it?

Evan... my mind is boggled. I can't believe you have the Rockies winning it all... let's get real here. Sox over Rays in ALCS, Cards over Braves in NLCS. Sox beat the Cards 4-2 in WS.

it'd be nice to see them win the 1st World Series of the NEXT decade (technically). 3 Titles in 7 years would suit me just fine.

see i guess i disagree with the idea that '10 ends the first decade. a decade is 10 years long. '00 was a year! '00 - '09 is in fact 10 years. go ahead get those fingers goin. 10 years. so while i see what you're saying Gerry, i can only quibble on something that should otherwise be meaningless or insignificant in disagreeing with you there. regardless, it would in fact be nice to see the Sox win it all again in 2010.

Hinske isn't a bad choice here at all. I might have been partial to perhaps electing speed off the bench in this spot. Dave Roberts would have been my choice to help give the bench a bit more versatility. Kapler has some speed, Roberts' base stealing prowess is more valuable. Despite Roberts' time with the team being short-lived; his impact is well documented and his role that postseason in my mind grants him a place as one of the better bench players this past decade. Surely this is debatable as I'm not trying to suggest that Hinske is a poor choice here. This has been a great series of blogs Evan, and I look forward to seeing the completed list for review in its entirety.

i'd love nothing more than to see Pap revisit his splitter. that pitch can be so effective, and with how it looks so similar to his fastball, the element of deception would be there. i certainly hope these "tweaks" you speak of aren't just code for doing things the way he used to. i'm for using legs to preserve the shoulder also, that's a big reason why i'm not so high on Bowden.

i'm a big Anthony Rizzo fan, he is the only reason i can stomach Lars' struggles. between Rizzo and Exposito, i think we have 2 guys in the system who can be good pieces if they are allowed to develop properly. Lars may be the victim of the Boston pressure cooker ALREADY, having never so much as played a game for Boston. lots of expecations, lots of people are going to be saying what Bill in FLA are saying about Lars being at the end of his rope this year.

random thought... you think the steroid subterfuge will once again rear its ugly head again this season with any current or newly acquired Sox? felt like amazing timing when it all came out about Papi. can't help but wonder about Beltre's 48HR season with the Dodgers and wonder if his name is on that list, and whether or not his name magically gets "leaked" at the most opportune time. *sorry to go completely off topic with that, just didn't have any other forum to get that out there*

you really have to think that this would preclude the Sox from making a serious run at AGon at the trade deadline this summer... unless of course *gasp* the unthinkable happens, and the injury prone Beltre goes down with yet another injury. remember Kurt, they will play Victor at 1b every 5th game or so, and unless there is an injury, how often do you need someone to spell Youk? I'm sure there will be a reserve infielder, but not one that will be relied upon to produce much. AAAAer or journeyman FA sounds about right Evan. aside from Chapman (who i'd love to see in our system), who might be one of the arms Theo rolls the dice on this year. since Duke and Escobar have been signed, and there's no money left for Ben Sheet's lofty salary expecations?

maybe i'm remiss, or my comprehension of the draft pick compensation is skewed; wouldn't the Sox get compensation from Wagner that would in effect nullify signing Scutaro? sure its not as advantageous as not signing Scutaro and having the Wagner picks and the picks the Sox started with. He's the best SS (left) on the market and fits the need until Iglesias is ready. whatdaproblemis? at this point i view Lowrie as nothing more than a young Alex Cora-type given is inability to stay healthy. i'd be surprised/disappointed if Lowrie were the opening day SS.

Agreed. Escobar and Duke... i'd need at least a 12pack and several shots of whiskey, then those two would look about as good as Smoltz and Penny. Why haven't we heard more about Harden and Sheets? I think you give one of those guys between $4-7 million, and hope that life with either and Wake is enough to get us "95 wins" again. of course there is the also the looming specter of a Roy Halladay trade... Alex Gonzalez to sign with the Jays? someone get Marco Scutaro on the horn pronto.
