YourCT.com : Just Who Is Politicizing East Ave Widening?

Do we inhabit this man's world or does he inhabit ours? I guess it depends on who you ask.

YourCT.com : East Avenue Resolution Ready For Vote

Agree with you on the responsibility for the bridge, and that local businesses already have means and methods in place for delivery of supplies. There have been very few instances of trucks striking the underside of this bridge--a walk underneath will confirm this--so I doubt that the desire to prevent more truck strikes ever figured much in the new design. So it has to be said, and as DPW has acknowledged, that the proposed increase in the headroom was designed in order to allow passage to a wider variety of trucks--namely taller, heavier ones. These trucks would have formerly taken another route to where they were going to or coming from. It stands to reason that this increased traffic will tend to eliminate—partially or fully—any benefit that would have been expected from the widening of East Avenue. And since it could be said that that the most serious cause of congestion on East Avenue stems from the I-95 Exit 16 on and off ramp activity, it’s questionable even whether the widening of East Avenue would have helped anything at all to begin with.

The existing railroad bridge has a posted clearance of 12'-02". The proposed new railroad bridge has a clearance of 14'-00" or even higher. This needs to be brought down. Some scoundrels are planning on rerouting truck traffic through here. That's very bad news for the neighborhood.

I'll have to examine these two plants peeking over and around my fence. It's starting to look like Jack himself planted them. j

Another plaudit for ConnDOT. Their involvement with East Avenue and the Metro North bridge should be monitored very closely.
