The mistake US pro-life activists make is they focus 90% on bans. I'm pro-life myself and support bans on abortion, but it's obvious that pursuing legislation to ban abortions isn't working--it's the culture that needs to change. Most women don't get abortions just because they don't want to be pregnant for 9 months--they get abortions because they don't want the child after its born. If pro-lifers focused more on adoption and viability research it may be more persuasive than a law or court ruling. Maybe they could have an education campaign showing how having a child isn't as devastating as you think instead of lobbying congress. This might actually change the culture to respect life again. It could be a good place to start for the Canadian pro-life movement.

The point of strategic strikes is to punish Assad and let him know it's bad to use chemical weapons, per the 1925 Geneva Protocol. If the US Government does not enforce the treaty it will have no meaning. That's what I hear from die-hard Democrats. How blowing up some things and killing people (except Assad) enforces the treaty is a mystery to me.

If Christian Conservatives were serious about marriage, they would be working to get the government out of marriage and make tax benefits neutral to everyone. Marriage is a covenant with God, not the State. But of course, married couples are a large voting bloc and won't give up their bennies easily. " My problem with drones is how they're being used. In a "conventional war", any state with a halfway decent defense can shoot these things out of the sky no problem. So they're not being used to conduct war (conflict between states), they're being used to assassinate. It's only a matter of time before they're used on us once the Government disarms us. Maybe not to bomb us (maybe), but to watch our movements and behavior. It wouldn't surprise me if the middle east is just the "sandbox" to test their abilities. So while you may fear some Islamist hiding out in some worthless cave/desert, I'm personally much more worried about the government taking away our liberty under the guise of "safety".

In both scenarios the intent is to kill an individual. How does bombing with drones stop terrorism? In a conventional war you bomb the opposing country until their government surrenders. So if there is no government how do you get the Al-Qaida to surrender? If a senior al Qaida is killed along with 20 innocents, is it possible that the families of those killed might be encouraged to oppose the US?

Taxing the people who are the most creative and able to avoid taxes (the rich) is a quick political shortcut, but not a solution to the problem. The problem is spending and neither side wants to take the political heat for making the necessary changes for non-discretionary and military spending.

Libertarians in the Republican party have to redefine themselves first so they're not seen as simply drug-addled. anti-war college kids. The Republican party claims the mantle of the Constitution, so libertarians need to define themselves as "Constitutional Conservatives" and get involved in the party. That's what I'm doing. The party bosses don't like it though so we'll see how it plays out.
