I feel that Mr Goodman, like a number of media commentators, has been stymied by events and finds it demanding how to react.

Full marks for what has been achieved, not just by Boris but also by and with quite a number of others (you know who) who have been instrumental in our at last being extracted from the EU's clutches.

Of course, parliament must vote for the deal. Not flawless, but I rely on the escape termination clause (12 months' notice) to help keep everyone honest.

My thanks rcv2. That DM article site pointed to a government web site with the backing data.

Agreeing with you Afturganga, and even more so with Sir John's excellent article, I should like to ascertain where I can view and properly study all of the charts used by Whitty and Vallance so poorly displayed in their presentations. If not available, why not?

Well, if and after we succeed in freeing ourselves from the EU's tentacles, we might advantageously turn attention to the merits and demerits of the Council of Europe. That it "looks after" the ECHR does not augur well.

Yes, turn off the tap.

It is the population increase which largely causes the need for more housing, rather obviously. Measures to curb immigration are urgently needed, yet successive governments just dance around the problem.

I recall that when May was appointed Home Secretary in the Cameron government, one of her first acts was, NOT to stem the immigration tide, but to cut the staff numbers of the Immigration Service.

The PM has just reaffirmed his support for HS2, inter alia (fatuously) saying it will produce 20,000 jobs. It seems he would be content with any grand project if it provided jobs, regardless of value.

Last year the Conservatives had no option but to support Boris as Tory leader because of the all-important Brexit issue, yet to be concluded. For whatever reason (possibly associated unfortunately with his health), he shows little inclination to drive through a Conservative agenda. It is worrying and Conservatives should address this urgently.

I think this indicates just how restricted is the amount of talent within the present Tory ranks.
