Alpaca Bytes : Economy Horse Run-In Shelter/Shed

It\\\'s footprint is 9ft wide by 12ft long. Usually 2 friendly horses are comfortable in there. You can extend the length to as long as you want but I wouldn\\\'t make it any wider than 10 ft or it might not stand up to strong winds. If I had to do it over again I\\\'d make mine 10\\\' wide instead of 9\\\' To house 5 horses I\\\'d recomend making at least 2 of these shelters. You could probably \\\"Cheat\\\" by making them side by side and sharing 1 wall.

Sorry, mom won't write up a pattern :o( I've been playing with scrap yarn and am working on one myself though. It'll be a while before I perfect it and write it down.

Alpaca Bytes : Alpaca Shell Scarf - With Pattern

I purchased the yarn and it had acrylic in it. I personally don't add acrylic to the yarns I have milled from my heard. I like adding tencel to my alpaca to have a machine washable yarn. That way it's still all natural fiber.

Exactly was I was thinking when I finished it. The width and height will easly fit 4x5 round bales stacked 2 on the bottom and one on top just fine. So this 9x12 shed would hold 9 round bales!

The Alpaca Guy : Social Media- A Phenomenon Adopted by the Alpaca Industry

I just love twitter and all the alpaca/llama presence around the world on there. If you’ve got a question and need a quick answer you can’t beat the response time. Perfect for those who are in the barn and using their BlackBerry. I’ve also found twitter very useful for getting in contact with customers as well. There is a HUGE following of fiber artists ranging from hand spinners to knitters. You can’t beat free marketing and its fun to see the projects that artists proudly post links of. Thanks AlpacaGuy for the mention! Love all the green!

Alpaca Bytes : My 3rd ever hand spun skein of yarn!

Setting the twist: If you notice this skein is loose, it looks like a pile of yarn rather than the nice twisted skeins you'd normally buy. To twist a skein of yarn span the yarn between both hands, start twisting with one of your hands until the yarn twists up on itself. Tuck one end into the other and you have a finished skein. If you set this skein in hot water and then let it dry the yarn holds this twisted shape and won't fall apart.

Did you needle felt with wool or alpaca? Alpaca is much harder to work with, wool is easier for beginners.

Alpaca Bytes : How To Make Felt Soap

The hardest part is starting it. Most people get excited and want to rub the soap don't be tempted. give it little baby taps all around until the fiber loosely holds it's shape around the soap. When you get to that point you're ready for the baggy and to go nuts rubbing it. If you rub too soon, your soap will pop out of the fiber.

Alpaca Bytes : How To Felt Beads with Alpaca

Felting alpaca is harder than wool. It's harder to get started. If you find that starting a round bead it hard try needle felting fiber together loosly and then dunk it in water. You'll find it's easier to get it to stay in a ball shape. Also, fiber with too much guard hair in it does not felt well at all.

Stringing them isn't hard at all. If the wire you're using is stiff enough, you can usually poke through the bead. Otherwise I use a more flexable wire, thread it through a needle and start popping felted beads on like popcorn! Sometimes I have to take the needle out to get the wire through non felted beads who's holes are too small to pass the needle through.
