It ain't over till the fat lady sings. Putin has a totally different mindset from the Rand corp. Washington cabal when it comes to war. The Russian people have an intimate acquaintance with war and what it does to people, having been involved in numerous wars in their homeland. Something Americans lack. The only Americans who have experienced war are the soldiers, who are nothing more than a pistol in their commander's hands. And their voice is ignored. Whereas to Russians, the horrors of war are real, not just some computer game. Therefore they first seek every avenue to avoid engagement. I doubt that what CPR suggests would have had a better outcome. Escalation to a nuclear conflict is bound to come. Whether it would have been better to start it yesterday, rather than today is debatable. And it 'ain't over yet.' Whatever the outcome, Putin's reticence to go to war, a war that will have no winners only victims, will be on record. In previous wars, the US has just walked away from the debacles of its own making. This time round it won't be able to do that, because this time round its world will come crashing down around its ears and there will be no one lifting a finger to dig it out.

The prophecy at Dan 11:40 to 45 says that in the final part of the day two of the former G8 members, the king of the north, Russia and the king of the rising of the sun, China would stand in opposition to the former G8 group of countries, see maps post 113, link above.
And the king of the Western block powers will have come all the way to their finish. My guess is that the petrodollar will collapse, and the G7 will form an alliance with the current G8 group of countries in order to survive. But the alliance will be short-lived. See Rev 17:12-17.

When reading the prophecies of Daniel one must remember that north and south, east and west are English renderings of Hebrew words. In the 6th BCE, maps with a compass pointing north and south did not exist. Most religious narratives and modern language translations have ignored this, and thus there are now a plethora of religious teachings at odds with one another. Whereas in the original languages the biblical accounts synchronize and paint a complete picture from Genesis to Revelation.
