What culture were they purporting that Sinn Fein are against? I think that they might have found more to do inside the building actually talking. Instead of doing the "Adams you mu..... no surr.... SFIR...." fill in the blanks, as it has all been heard before. What was the special on the menu at the Europa today?

There is an assumption that in conflict there is one party that is outside the law, even when the law enforcers themselves are as bloodied as the perceived wrong-doers. This is not an easy law to bring in that is based on simple numbers. The number 5 makes all who commit crime the same. There is a time when violence is necessary, when there is nothing else. NI is less than a century old and it's whole existence depends on the assumption that it's reason for being has some anchor in history. It is that wrong-doing, that gerrymandered, colonial schism that rendered people who otherwise would have had other things to do with their time on the path to something that no righteous person would choose. It is that assumption, that most men and women live for life and love that leads me to uphold the right of people to take whatever work they can get, according to the merits that they hold and not because of any damnation bestowed by people who given the chance would most likely have let them hang, if they could get away with it. Violence is born out of injustice. Sort that out and there would be no fuel to ignite the hearts of men to do things they otherwise would leave undone.

All will go to heaven, even those who don't deserve it. If god is love then love the sinner. Just be happy you are not the sinner. Tribal thinking, I'm great and you are not. the comfort in being saved is a ridiculous notion, and proclaiming it is even sadder. At the end of the day, it's not over till it's over and then who knows apart from the one who's passed on. That's the beauty of religion.
When exactly did they decide in the Catholic Church that Jesus is God? I think it is much more palatable thinking that he was just an excellent orator, doer of good and lover of people and all that makes humanity great. It's all the afterlife crap that makes religion so hollow. I do all this to live forever. Like who wants to? Freddy was right... Living here and now is liberating. I think Francis is going to free us all from what binds us to money. YOu go Franky. Keep your right glove up!

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/ : Northern Ireland Census: More Catholics unemployed than Protestants - BelfastTelegraph.co.uk

Statistics are very useful if used to bring about fairness and change for the better. These statistics are only ever used to be divisive. 90 years of separation and concerted efforts to create a Northern Irish identity have succeeded to some degree. I count myself as Irish, but also as Northern Irish as that would be to deny my heritage as part of the population of Ireland left in limbo. How that translates in a decision to either stay in the UK or opt for a united Ireland would be pretty easy for me, as I would think of the future and not just of the current state of either party. But understanding that Catholics are still more likely to be unemployed and so on, is something that we can deal with inthe meantime.

Silly person. Do you even know what Luther wanted? I think not. Luther was himself a Catholic who wanted change. He was just a bit before his time. He did not want the scatter of protestant faiths that have emerged. I think he would be pretty chuffed with the Church as it is today, but that is through 16th century eyes. A bit like yours really.
Oh Talk_Bull how little do you know. Your little cluster of break outs, blow-ins, mergers, reformers, deformers, transformers, abnormers and oh I think I'll start my own religion, you can have as many flavors as you like, but when you are good and ready, you are welcome back to the universal mother church that has given you the light to carry in the world. You should thank the pagans and their church for bringing the good news to you. Do not let your judgement be clouded by the actions of the few, the many are strong and will be here in another 200 years, when the others have spun off into whatever form takes their fancy at that point in time, The three-times reformed, united, divided free Presbyterian with a sprinkle of Methodism and a hint of Pentecostal shaking for good measure. But please do gloat on, but you are a little plankton in a big ocean.

If you were a true gentelman, you would be balanced in your appraisal of why historical events produce situations that are not ordinary. Northern Ireland in itself is a state born out of the failure of unionists to accept the will of the Irish people on the island of Ireland. This ill-designed quango state came about out of unadulterated ignorance of what the vast majority of people on the island wanted. To have 6 counties removed and held onto, with a seemingly irreversible majority, upheld with multiple votes for the protestant ruling class. And you point the finger at the Republicans as if they are just evil and started a political and military revolt. It started out of pure necessity and stopped when that end was deemed to be achievable by peaceful means. The insight that you cannot bomb anyone into a united Ireland came from a lot of pain on all sides. I would never argue that there were not atrocities carried out by the state and paramilitaries. So that was a response to your self-righteous rant, but what you seem to imply is that it is ok for mayhem to return, with street violence erupting all over the place, and for what? For a flag's normalization? Is that what this is all about, the right to ignore democracy at any point where the shoe does not fit? You see, when Republicans ignore your law and order, they are purely terrorists and not British old chap, but when men in hats and sashes do as they please, they are purely exercising their right to march the queen's roads, as loyal subjects. The flag has not been removed, remember that, but you don't like what is happening and there is sod all you can do to change what has been on the cards for the longest time, and the days of singular orange are numbered, and with that I only mean that the green and while will be added. The Orange is there and will always be part of what makes Ireland the island nation that it is.

What a particularly awful piece of writing about a defining moment in history. The use of words that are judgmental, sarcastic and more pompous than the feeling he tries to convey is actually quite insulting. I am Catholic, but not to the point of being uncritical of the Vatican, but I think for someone who could not see the room, or the faces of those congregated, I think there is a bit too much personal opinion and conjuring of a story than what is healthy. I hope his journalistic prowess is exemplified elsewhere as this was quite distasteful to say the least.

It's the house of LORDS dear chap and not the house of lord. God has very little to do with it. You are selective in your view on Christianity and you stop at even mentioning the Catholic populace who are part of the world's largest faith. However, to your poorly worded rant that starts with we. If there are more than you, then you should state from whom. Gay marriage is right for gay people and gays in society are as welcome as the next. Or we could go back to never talking about it and force people into loveless marriages fro keeping up appearances. If God didn't want homosexuals, why does he continuously create so many? Live and let live and I wish that people could jsut get over it. this is a good step for humanity at large...

How on god's earth can anything predate civilization, unless you use carbon-dating, but I trust you realize that would not help here. Marriage is a union of two individuals that is as much about providing a fiscal environment to take care of the individuals in that household. Allowing marriage between same sex people is about equality and is only interesting for those interested in entering a same sex marriage. everyone else doesn't have to care. The bible is 66 books of how many? What was left out, why where these included? Who decided what was in the bible? Oh yes, it was the council of Trent, a Roman Catholic council that agreed the contents of the bible, indeed inspired by god. Few people almost wanting to throw their bible away there thinking that the RCs had anything to do with its formation. Oh yes again, they were inspired by god... Mr Duncski has been let down. Ach the poor crater's upset god love him...
