The USB SuperDrive serves that purpose, it also allows them to charge it as an add-on. For the very minimal times you actually need a disk drive. They did the same with the internal storage and PCI Express card slots, shifting it all out to the Thunderbolt external products. I just use Firefox and set it to clear the browsing/search history and offline cache every time it closes. I am fine with keeping cookies and saving password forms. (PS. You can also tell someone's browsing history from the offline data and Temp folders)
