But there are costs to DADT. The first cost is the security risk that officers will be subjected to blackmail. The second cost is that outted, discharged officers result in a needless loss of training and experience; i.e. a loss of money.
The third cost is that, by arbitrarily excluding certain groups, available personnel for hire will become scarcer and the average quality of personnel will decrease and/or the cost of retaining the same personnel will increase. There are probably many talented interpreters, for example, who are gay and inaccessible to the military. Even though the military is more or less a socialist employment program, it still is subject to the prices of labor imposed by the free market. If a private company were to arbitrarily expel and forbid any gay employees it would generally be at a competitive disadvantage to its competitors.
Assuming that taking a dump on human rights is even morally valid to begin with, you should at least take the economics of the situation into account in your cost/benefit analysis. Instead, we just have knee-jerk reactions based on superstition.

You don't have to "let" them on the battlefield. They are already there. But I guess it's easier to stick your head in the sand like an ostrich than to face truth and logic.
Why would you want military officers to be subjected to possible blackmail just because they prefer certain kinds of bedroom activities and not others? That seems like a big security risk to take just so that a few bigots who can't handle reality can continue living in a delusion.

"The gays don't really want to serve" - They are already serving, but nice try.
"Most straight military men don't want to share shower and sleeping quarters with a gay man." - But they are already doing it anyway.
"Directly on topic, the term openly gay has a meaning. It means any behavior customarily espoused of delicate female attributes combines with the in your face attitude that the male or female sexual desires are a form of protected speech that can not be controlled no matter what the circumstance" - No, it means stating you are gay.

Yes. It will increase recruitment if openly gay patriots are allowed to defend USA. Plus it will increase the overall dignity of USMC by showing that it actually respects the Constitution, rather than treating it as a nut rag.
Americans should not have to suffer a bigoted organization propped up through taxation. If you want to be an ignorant and hateful person, fine, but do it on your own dime and not with public funds.
There is not one shred of scientific evidence justifying oppression of gays; there is only irrational superstition. Alexander the Great was probably gay or bi and yet had many military victories. Maybe instead of hating gays so much you should worry about the country facing a cataclysmic currency collapse due to countless criminal socialists and Keynesian shysters filling the government.

As Pashtuns tend to have higher amount of homosexual behavior, I suggest not deploying biggoted soldiers to Afghanistan. How can you protect people whom you hate?
