And have been misinformed on many things about God. Sola Scriptura, as you know, means only Scripture. It won't be found IN the Bible, because it defines the Bible as God's only written Word. Sola Scriptura means, quite simply, that Christians follow Scripture alone-if something theologically isn't defined/commanded in Scripture, it isn't proper theology. As for Catholics being Christians-if you are Catholic, by your theology I am NOT a Christian. But I am not a 'confused' brother, or uneducated, or simply misinformed. I am a Christian. I am one of those whom Catholics used to torture and kill for their alleged heresy. Martin Luther didn't come up with Sola Scriptura- it's on every page of the Bible, and when I say Bible I mean God's Word without the Apocrypha. The one with the Ten Commandments in their proper order. The one where Jesus Christ is known to have brothers and sisters, not alleged 'cousins' as the Catholic Church teaches to support their idea of Mary as an eternal virgin. Emotional rather than reasoned responses? Sola Scriptura, boys. Meaning that if it isn't in the Bible, it has no theological basis, and shouldn't be done as an act of faith. Bat, James, Peter, Paul and Jesus didn't make 'pilgrimages' to Jerusalem. They went to the Temple but not as an act of faith-they were acts of obedience. Many Jewish people (including Scribes and Pharisees) would go to the Temple obeying the letter of the law but without faith in God- instead they put faith in their religious acts. (Sound familiar?) The Pharisees didn't win any special favor from God for their going to the Temple. And Buck, Works without faith is doubly dead-not only does it not merit favor from God when we add to what God has declared in His Word (look long and hard through Scripture and you will find no mention of God demanding pilgrimages to Spain or Portugal or Plymouth Rock.) It is also deadly because it causes many to believe that they are headed to Heaven based not on what Christ did on the Cross, but what they do in their lives. That is false. The Catholic church may have decided that church tradition is as valid as Scripture, but it isn't. Man can't add to what God declares. Sola Scriptura has caused much enmity between Catholics and Christians throughout the ages. We won't settle the debate here, but I believe that I am right. You believe that you are right.
