KOMO - Seattle, WA : Family discovers its home was a meth lab | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breakin

Sadly it isn't the former owner who has the burden of proof. The former owner does not have to convince the court of anything, the current owners are the ones who would have to prove it. If they spent $15K on a lawyer it was probably to review all the documents, insurance policies, police reports to see if they could build a case.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : 30 years after losing touch, two siblings reunite at Lakewood YMCA | People | Tacoma News

I suspect she wasn't told his last name. We tend to use people's first names, particularly in settings where you want them to feel comfortable. And they may have listed him by his full name rather than by the name he goes by (i.e. "Gilbert" rather than "Gil"). So if it's been 30 years and you're meeting "Gilbert and Joanne" and you aren't expecting them to be related it might not pop into your head that they're "Gil and Jo" from 30 years ago.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : New app would turn your iPhone into an iWitness | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports,

Actually I can see this being a lot of use in domestic violence situations. Particularly where ex-spouses are transferring the kids. That is when most d.v. situations happen. If the spouse knows they're being recorded they may be less apt to do something. It may not help as evidence in a lawsuit in WA, depending on the circumstances. In WA both parties have to consent to being recorded. The flashing light is good for putting someone on notice but if I wanted to rely on the video in a court of law I'd announce to the attacker that they are being recorded.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Warmer weather leads to increase in drownings, water rescues | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weat

It's not currents that are killing them. It's the water temperature. Your body loses heat 25 times faster in cold water than in cold air. That means you have a minute or two before you start losing coordination, the ability to think, etc. Everyone talks about life jackets - no one talks about the dangers of hypothermia in 50 degree or colder water. That's what they should be stressing in articles like this. There are videos on the web to show the effects of hypothermia in the water. If you're thinking of jumping in, check those out first.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Snohomish launching criminal investigation into lost funds, forged documents | Local & Regional | Se

I never said it was the homeowners fault. I said they received the value of the improvements. If they take that value without paying to me that is effectively stealing. It's no different than if a store clerk puts an item in your bag without charging for it. If you discover the mistake and keep the item without paying for it, then its cheating. Should the city work out a payment plan, maybe put a special assessment on the property so that the improvements are paid for over time since the assessment wasn't included in the purchase price of the house? Yes. Should the developer, if the price paid reflected actual market value and the developer pocketed extra money due to the occupancy permit being issued without payment of the fee cough up the money, or at least the portion they pocketed? Yes. Should the taxpayers pay for this in the form of a lawsuit to the city? No. If there was actual fraud involved by the city employee and/or the developer should that be pursued first instead of the homeowner? Absolutely! But if it is just a mistake, the fee should run with the land and the people getting the benefit of it should pay for it.

Whoa. The people said they knew they were getting deal on the house "great neighborhood...good house for the price." If its too good to be true it probably is. The house should have cost $20K more to cover the sewer and other fees. They're certainly benefitting from the sewer and schools now (they have 2 kids) and will benefit from it when they sell. They shouldn't get the service for free and stick it to the other taxpayers to fork out the money.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Ken Schram: I\'m with the duck hunters on this \'problem\' | Ken Schram | Seattle News, Weather, Spo

Really Ken? I guess for some people there isn't a problem until someone is killed. I know a group of kayakers who were shot at while on a beach for a break in that area. They don't know if the shooters knew they were there. They did blow whistles to let the shooters know they were there, called 911. Now they caution people about the area. Sorry but there are less populated areas to hunt, and stores to buy food in. When your recreational activity kills bystanders (and there are plenty of stories of people being shot by hunters) and does not require a defined area like a football field so bystanders can avoid it, some rules to protect the rest of us are in order. It's good to see the legislature having the foresight to prevent the tragedy.

More Power to these clergy. There is a reason we all have free will. There is a reason the Bible warns people to judge not lest ye be judged. Christ accepted everyone into his ministry and allowed them to choose their path. He preached love - agape - and acceptance. I think this group is on the right path - accept everyone and let God do the judging.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Organization seeking statewide ban on plastic bags | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sport

GreatBird and longneck There are more dogs in the city of Seattle than people. The existence of dogs creates jobs and businesses. They fulfill jobs humans can't do - like being companion animals to the disabled, providing security for the autistic, protecting families, companionship, tracking down criminals (ever see the K9 unit in action?) and search and rescue. Sorry dogs exist, their owners exist, their supporters exist and we vote. Meanwhile the proposition of banning bags is an ineffective gesture that will not solve the problems listed in the article but will have the effect of adding an additional tax on the poor (if people have to buy bags or replacements for what they currently use plastic bags for), will affect health (those reusable grocery bags have been proven to be a petrie dish of disease) and will rid the state of something that for many is a functional tool (on any given day I see grocery bags used for lunch bags, as garbage and trash bags, to contain leaks and spills, etc.) It will cost jobs (of the people who produce and distribute the bags) at a time when the economy needs all the help it can get. And if you're so naive as to think there isn't some big lobby behind your plastic bag campaign, like paper manufacturers, think again. Paper bags are not a functional equivalent to plastic bags. Paper bags require the killing of trees, paper factories pollute the air. Trees also provide oxygen and prevent soil erosion (another thing hurting the oceans). There are numerous other plastic items that have no functional utility and are far more damaging to the environment. But we can't ban those, that would affect interstate commerce. This will not clean the ocean or save the whales. To do that you have to get all the other states and countries in the world to join your ban. If you want to voluntarily stop using the bags be my guest. If you want to legislate this then you'll have to convince a majority of the voters that your proposition makes sense.

If you ban plastic bags you better repeal all the poop scoop laws at the same time. I'm not picking up dog shit in the street with paper bags. It's unsanitary (and impossible) to carry a scooper and walk 2 dogs at once. Pick your sanitation issue people. This seems like a drastic measure. Why not try educating people on the recycling and fining people who litter first.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Port Orchard minister admits to rape of girl on tape | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News

So what relevance do your statistics have to this story? Bottom line is that ministers, pastors, priests, etc., are in a profession to heal and nurture spirits. That many of these people have violated that trust and used their positions to abuse is heinous. That their organizations have hidden and protect them is more heinous. And that people like you try to make a distinction rather than acknowledge the pain and the wrong that does happen shows that some ministries still don't work. Here's a test. When is the last time you defended attorneys after hearing a lawyer joke? Or after hearing a story about a lawyer gone bad? Same difference - profession tainted by the acts of a person, often tainted by the acts of their clients. What about stories regarding any other socio-economic, profession or race where they are tainted by the acts of a person? If you aren't "ignorant" as you call others then you must do a lot of defending.

But it is more heinous because:1) he was in a position of trust with someone at a very sensitive age and he (along with the parents who ignored her) shattered that trust; and 2) his acts have the potential to separate his victims from a spiritual life; and 3) since he did it in the capacity of his profession it taints his profession in addition to the man. He clearly knew it was wrong. I doubt he listened to his victim's pleas when she was at his "mercy". In this case because the access was obtained through his profession, his profession is part of the story.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Local museum facing closure | Tacoma News

Actually 5.11 if you read the news lately you would know there is actually excess capacity in state jails to the point where they are competing for local offenders. One super jail in Yakima just lost multiple local towns to another local prison that charges less per prisoner. Do some research if you don't believe me. The reasons we don't keep people in is because of the expense of housing them, guarding them, paying for their medical, etc. Honest people who are working low paying jobs can't afford healthcare, meanwhile criminals live in luxury because of some fear that anything less would be cruel and unusual.

Excuse me, guarantyautos, but this is the STATE history museum, and this is their display of state owned property. I suspect, 5.11that was why he got a negative 3. The problem with museums being in private hands is that many private collectors keep their collections to themselves - you can't make them display it for the public. The state may have problems donating state artifacts to a non-profit for the same reason the state cannot give property to anyone - to keep it fair they typically have to auction off items. And it is unlikely that a state history museum would be a break-even prospect, although many would say preserving the history is important. The likely best solution besides just mothballing the history (which is about the same as selling it) would be for the state to donate the facilities and items, see if they can get volunteers to man most of the paid positions (some, particularly curators would need to remain) charge memberships to pay for light, heat, etc., and corporate sponsors to support exhibits.

Hmm if this is so common how come severed feet aren't showing up elsewhere in the world? And they all just happen to be wearing tennis shoes? I guess the theory is that all other shoe types sink. It just doesn't feel quite right. There are a lot of missing people in the world. Why couldn't someone be meeting them on hiking trails, killing them and throwing the body in the water? Same end result as the "innocent story" people.
