As it was, Ultimatum was average - the ending was weak, and now - what a surprise - it's time to cash in and keep making more, until eventually one of them is so horrendously bad that the whole franchise is tarnished. It's weird though - something about Zodiac, which was a sturdy film, but underwhelming somehow - has made me stop being excited about a new Fincher film. I didn't even know that Benjamin Button was his until a couple of weeks ago, and when I read it I was, like, hmmm, still not that bothered about seeing this film. With Aronofsky, there's a palpable sense of - what's he gonna do next? And I definitely think Fincher has lost that. Which is sad.
