Those who signed on to serve her, believing she was the embodiment of Ronald Reagan, did not know her. Sarah Palin has many laudable characteristics, to be sure. But she is no Ronald Reagan and does not merit serious consideration for high office. Where Reagan was well-qualified to be President, Palin is not in the least qualified. Reagan kept his promises and saw the job through. Palin reneged on her promises to her constituents and quit the governorship to further enrich herself. As President Reagan's biographer noted, "You always knew where Reagan stood. He never equated disagreement with disloyalty". Palin's dealings with both her loyal associates and supporters as well as her political adversaries was by contrast, self-serving and vindictive. Her relationships with others were built not on trust, but suspicion and retreat from responsibility. McCain operatives announced her as their vice-presidential nominee in a desperate last-minute attempt to find someone who would be acceptable to conservatives.voters. She was a largely unknown but appealing personality, chosen before being vetted; the disastrous campaign that followed was an inevitable result. She remains a "Not Ready for Prime-Time Republican.
__In the unlikely event she were to run and become the candidate to oppose Obama in 2012, the leaders of the Republican Party will have once again, shown their unmatched ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
