There might be something ominous about Nanny not noticing that she'd knocked over that knick-knack, or maybe it just means that she was so focused on Tiffany, and the problem of the elves, that she really didn't notice that she'd done it.

The expression "travelled in X" generally means a travelling salesman who sells X, so a man who "travelled in ladies’ lingerie" would be a travelling lingerie salesman.

This chapter gave me a couple of Harry Potter vibes, first with the misunderstanding about just the right wood for Geoffrey's staff, and later with his instant talent for broomstick flying.

Earlier in the book, we saw Vetinari twice not knowing one of the words in the crossword, which I don't think has ever happened before. Then the reveal about Charlie came, and I thought "Ah, that's what's going on!" But that doesn't work, because it's right after the second incident that Vetinari tells Drumknott to go get Charlie.

Now I'm wondering if Pratchett had plans to give Vetinari an Embuggerance, had time allowed, and if that was the case, might Vetinari be grooming Moist to take over as the next Patrician?

It also contains a scene where the children avert a disaster by waving down a train with their petticoats.

And the E. stands for Edith. Part of the long tradition of publishers not thinking people will buy books written by women, so they "disguise" the author's gender by only giving their initial(s)
