: The ObamaCare Meltdown Begins

I think we should give Obamacare a chance. Just because the IRS uses its power to deprive the ruling party's political opposition of money while facilitating the flow of dollars into the pockets of its allies doesn't mean the IRS will use its power to deprive the ruling party's political opposition of health care while facilitating access to medical resources by its allies. I mean, just because your death is good for Obama because you'll stop voting and the death tax can seize your savings doesn't mean Obama won't give you the same level of service as he'll deliver to his cronies. What sort of paranoid mind could suggest that Obama doesn't support equal treatment under the law? Anyone who thinks that should have their taxes audited and their health care cut to the bone!

This would be less hypocritical if it were not in sharp contrast to the Obamacare mandates being imposed upon Christian religious institutions regarding the providing of abortifacients and similar violations of church dogma. Seems that some religions are to be accommodated and others are to be beaten into submission. As with the latest IRS guidelines about who to stonewall and who to audit, Obama has implemented a new, extreme template of unequal treatment under the law. It's ironic that the first black president chooses to make himself a retrograde symbol of increasing inequality. So much for "progress".

: How Tesla Motors Really Makes Money... From Taxpayers

"The subsidies for EV's were written by a Republican senator from Tennessee, approved by a Republican congress and signed by George W. Bush to lower US trade deficits by replacing foreign oil with US sourced electricity. Replacing foreign oil with US made electricity will ultimately lower tax burdens beyond the payroll, sales and corporate taxes paid, plus jobs created, by EV makers." Just because something was done by Republicans doesn't mean it's good or should be rubber-stamped by "conservatives". Indeed, that's the reason the budget went to hell under GWB; the Republican water-carriers didn't raise objections because the offense was being perpetrated by the home team. Seems that most people in Washington lose sight of any goal beyond jockeying for power, and to hell with the country. I certainly applaud the general goals of securing American energy independence and utilizing renewable resources. This serves to bolster ecological and economic and national security needs; something for everyone! But the devil is in the details. The subsidies tend to mask wastage. If we pay many thousands of dollars of public money to save one thousand dollars of personal oil consumption, we've taken more resources out of the system than we've put into it. The resources that went into making those batteries must be weighed against the savings, but we hide that. The politicians just trumpet one end of the equation and we all feel good, but we haven't solved any fundamental problems and are still broke. Got to look at the big picture! Bottom line is the Tesla is a luxury car for rich people, and we're not going to improve the ecology or save the nation by pouring public money into it.

The Heritage Foundry : Morning Bell: Obama and the Seuss-quester

It's politically impossible to stop the spending, because the screams that come when the spending slows are louder than the calls for fiscal balance and sanity. And everyone knows they can't raise taxes enough to pay for the spending, because that would cause the economy to slow even more. So the solution that these reasonable, moral people come to is that we must all sacrifice our children to the great god Washington. And anyone who disagrees must be a mean-spirited racist, because no reasonable person would hesitate to sacrifice his children (or your children) for the benefit of the political cronies of the day. That the men and women of Washington are sick in the head and sick in the soul is so obvious that I shouldn't have to point it out.

The Heritage Foundry : Side Effects: Doctors Fear Obamacare

I'd never discussed politics with my doctor, but he was talking about Obamacare with serious concern. The quick summary was, from his perspective, it inserted a lot of micromanagement into his practice and impeded his ability to work freely with patients. He noted that a lot of people figured they were good at navigating bureaucratic waters so they didn't expect to find their medical options limited and controlled, but those people were in for an unpleasant surprise.

Your history is backwards. Ask anyone that lived through the 1970's and 1980's. I don't really care what the 400 wealthiest Americans have. As long as ordinary people can make a decent living and lead a decent life, the fact that someone else has a lot more than me is irrelevant. With respect to the concentration of wealth and power, I worry much more about Washington, which has vastly more power, and is vastly stupider in its use of it. Every crisis is an excuse for Washington to assume greater control. This ought to worry everyone, right or left. Probably most people think either our last president or our current president was or is a dangerous moron or worse. Keep that in mind when the president gathers ever more power. Maybe you like the guy, but the next one will probably be another dangerous moron. Robber barons come and go, but Washington just gets fatter and stupider.

Affirmative action started with Blacks. The historical injustice that pushed Blacks to the bottom of the pile is obvious enough. We can argue whether pushing a modern innocent White down to make room for a Black, in order to make up for the evil done by some other historical White, is reasonable policy. But, agree or disagree, at least we can understand the argument, and we can't entirely dismiss it: That the nation is institutionally attempting to set right a historical institutional wrong. Somewhere along the line, making up for the evil of slavery morphed into the quest for "diversity". In making this transition, our institutional discrimination abandoned its moral foundation. Why do we give points to whatever fill-in-the-blank class is "underrepresented"? This is discrimination, pure and simple. In a sane society, such notions would have been immediately struck down. 14th Amendment; equal protection under the law, that sort of basic thing. But no, modern racism considers itself enlightened. And enlightenment, it would seem, trumps the law, the Constitution. Replacing affirmative action with diversity has also trivialized the victims of slavery. If everyone's a victim, then nobody's a victim. Our nation has morally descended. It's a sad thing, but there it is. I don't know how to change it, but I can testify to the truth. The fools in high positions can proclaim their toxic nonsense to be morality, but that doesn't make it so. Practicing modern racism in order to fight historical racism is stupid and evil.

One technical quibble: If I recall the numbers from the debate a few years back, the biggest losers of the racial preference systems were not the Caucasians but the ethnic Asians. There were just too many Asians, and the quotas reduced their numbers and replaced them with Blacks and Latinos. If I've got that right, then the bake sale ought to charge a premium for Asians rather than giving them a discount. For anyone that finds this bake sale offensive...well, it's certainly reasonable to complain about offensive things that go down in our public institutions. But the last generation has been an endless litany of institutional offenses against Main Street America, and we've been told to open our wallets and shut our mouths. If the Left suddenly finds something offensive...well, welcome to the club.

Intellect is often a targeted talent; a math wizard might be a literary imbecile. And education doesn't necessarily equate to wisdom or goodness (and sometimes I think the biggest goofballs in the world are the people that went to grad school). I'm pleased that the Jews have produced geniuses and been a boon to humanity, and my lament about the culture is limited and specific. As to what we're supposed to do about this state of affairs...I have no idea. I'd rather rabbis not get political, because I think politics and religion are somewhat mutually exclusive. Religion is the pursuit of a connection between our innermost being and the Creator; politics generally degenerates into what's wrong with the other guy. Religion is thought-provoking; politics is sloganeering. In a sense, my politics arise out of my religious convictions, but I don't want the tail to wag the dog. Get the philosophy right, and our worldly actions will improve. As a practical matter, I think Obama will forfeit a lot of the Jewish vote, but a big majority will still turn out for him. The Jews aren't a big part of the electorate in most places, so this really doesn't matter. More significantly, I think most Jews will be discouraged from opening up their pocketbooks to Mr. Obama. They'll hold their nose and vote for him, knowing at some level they're fools, but they're salve the consciences by not donating to this nincompoop. The unthinkable thought that it's okay for Jews to vote against the Democrat may start to lose some of its taint.

Breitbart.tv : Palin Fan Overwhelmed by Hug

Today at a labor rally Jimmy Hoffa screamed, "President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let's take these son of bitches out." Then Obama took the podium and warmly thanked Hoffa. Elsewhere, Biden spoke at another rally, said labor was under attack, they were at war, their existence was threatened, and had better stand up and repel the "barbarians at the gate." Maxine Waters says the Tea Party can go to hell, some other black caucus hatemonger says her political opponents want to hang black people from trees. That's what we're hearing from the Democrat leaders. Whether you agree with Sarah Palin's politics or not, you've got to acknowledge that she's a class act all the way. Palin's rhetoric is always seeking unity and common ground, never hatemongering. She'll accuse her political opposition of taking the wrong path, of course. But her criticism is upbeat and constructive. Her tone stands in stark contrast to the emotional invectives that are the prime weapon of her opponents.

Are you accusing me of being an anarchist? I don't trust corporations. They'll sell their mothers if there's a nickel of profit in the deal. But neither do I trust the government. At least the corporations give me some degree of choice. If a corporation screws me, I'll boycott them and gnaw at their ankles for a bit. Can't do that with the IRS or with a government regulation. I don't get all these people who shouted about how George Bush was a corrupt evil moron, and now they want to nationalize the entire world just because there's a guy in power they like. Don't you think the next guy will be another corrupt evil moron? You want George Bush III deciding whether you can get abortions? Government has a role, a small role, as a referee. Government is a servant, not a master. That's the Constitution, and that's what works. What we have here, the centralization of power, the government sticking its nose into our personal lives and making our intimate decisions, is a government gone wild. It must be stopped.

The premium on my Anthem policy, which I pay out of my own pocket, jumped 19% this month. They sent me a letter citing the new law. Before the law passed, advocates were trumpeting that it would control costs. Now that it's law, they tell us the spike in insurance costs was intentional, but it will all work out in the future. I figure it will get worse, not better. Obviously the goal is to make private insurance prohibitively expensive, so we'll all go clamoring to the government to nationalize health care entirely. I don't want that to happen because then health care will be allocated to the people with the most political pull, and the rest of us will get the short end of the stick. I'll take my chances with a diverse marketplace. The monstrosity of a health care bill stinks from start to finish, and everybody knows it. Let's all pray we can survive until it's repealed.
