Equestria Daily : MLP Comic Arc #1 Completion Discussion!

That header image was the most epic moment in the comic series! This little story arc was great, good enough that I'd suggest it even to people who aren't MLP fans. Sad that Andy Price wont be on art duties for the next four (his art is friggin fantastic), but hopefully Amy Mebberson can keep up the high quality

Equestria Daily : Episode Followup: \"Games Ponies Play\"

Did anyone else find Twilight's lines a little disconnected from everyone else's? I know Tara records in LA and the rest of the cast in Vancouver, but the dialogue has always been seamless before. For this episode, Twilight's lines did seem like they were recorded separately from the other's. Other than that, top notch episode. Being from Canada, the 2010 Olympics were a huge deal and I was genuinely proud of how our country did (first place!), so I could relate to Rainbow Dash and all the Crystal Ponies

Equestria Daily : Discussion: My Little Pony Comic Issue #3

Man, these comics are great. One question though: what exactly did Chrysalis do to the one cat-thingy on page 10, where she's holding it, and then the next panel just says "thump" with a splatter? I pictured her smacking it against a wall or the floor or something, but that seems a little too gruesome, even with the comic's darker tone

Don't understand why everyone liked this episode so much more than the last Spike episode. He's was worse characterized here, and the whole story was just kinda boring, basically a rehash of Secret of My Excess. At least this is only the first time they've really missed the mark this season

Equestria Daily : \"Spike at your Service\": Episode Followup

Yay, Hark, A Vagrant reference! Also I appear to be in the minority of people who really enjoyed the episode. I honestly didn't even notice Spike's clumsiness as being out of character until I read the comments here. And of course people are gonna be bitching out Merriwether Williams again without good reason. The dialogue in this episode was probably the best of the season so far. I think that in terms of dialogue and episode flow, she's second only to MA Larson out of writers currently on the show. If people are going to complain about a cliche narrative being used in a children's cartoon, someone should explain to them how kid's shows work

Equestria Daily : \"Wonderbolts Academy\": Episode Followup

I think this is the first time my issues with an episode were with it's flow and structure as opposed to it's narrative. I personally found the cuts back to Ponyville a bit jarring. I know they were necessary for the climax to happen, but they just seemed sort of arbitrarily stuffed in. Also, I was confused at the end of the episode. It seemed to be missing it's final scene. Is Dash a Wonderbolt now? And did they actually kick Lightning Dust out, or what? I was genuinely surprised when the credits rolled that that was it. Despite these things, I still really liked the episode. RD episodes tend to be my favorites, and this was no exception. Dash always comes across better in episodes where she is the main focus, and we get to see that she has obviously grown since the series began. I also quite liked Lightning Dust. Seeing RD's boisterous, daredevil attitude taken to its logical conclusion were it left unchecked gives an interesting contrast between the two. I was disappointed Spitfire's VA changed, but I don't think there was anything wrong with her character. She's training these recruits to be in the Wonderbolts, she's going to be a hardass and she's not going to be buddy-buddy with Rainbow Dash. (Also, everyone needs to be a little nicer to Merriwether Williams. She's proved she's a great writer. One bad episode that wasn't even really her fault for being bad shouldn't define her)

I wish everyone would quit harping on Merriwether Williams. The idea behind Mare-Do-Well was problematic before she wrote it (since all the episodes are planned out at the beginning by the head people then sort of distributed to the writers). The flow of the story and the dialogue in the episode were fine, which are true indicators of a writer's ability

Equestria Daily : Friendship is Magic Issue #1 - Discussion Post

Even though I was expecting it to be pretty great, I was still surprised at just how much I liked it. The art was a great mix of sticking to the show's aesthetic, while still adding a bit of personal style, and the detail was astounding. I think I spent 5 minutes just looking at everything on that first full page panel. But above all, the panel layout has got to be the best part of the comic, it's so dynamic and really gives it a fun, action-filled feeling. It's tough to judge the story so far since we've gotten just the introduction, but it seems solid so far as well. I think people shouldn't be too concerned with how close the comic sticks to the show's canon, this is after all a writer with no real affiliation to the show itself. I think a little artistic licence with the show's established world should be allowed.

Equestria Daily : The Crystal Empire Parts 1 and 2: Episode Analysis

I think you really got it right with King Sombra. Everyone who wanted to see more of his backstory or more characterization needs to realize that to add that, something else would have had to be taken out of the episodes. The writers seemed to find a good balance in terms of pacing, and to do that something had to be sacrificed, and I think the right choice was to reduce Sombra's screen time. He still added all the necessary tension a villain must provide, while leaving time for the story to naturally unfold. Also Cadance and Shining Armour are starting to redeem themselves for me. If you can ignore how badly they were shoehorned into the series, they actually seem to work pretty well as minor characters interacting with Twilight and the gang

Equestria Daily : \"The Crystal Empire\", Parts 1 and 2: Episode Followup

I don't understand the King Sombra-hate. He didn't need deep characterization or backstory. There was a building suspense throughout the episode caused simply by the evil presence he brought, and it made the episode work great. No one seems to have mentioned how much better the pacing in this episode was compared to Canterlot Wedding, and even Return of Harmony, and I think this was in part because there was less focus on creating a completely fleshed out villain. I admire the ambition the show's writers have when in comes to these 2 part episodes, but 44 minutes only allows so much to be included, and I think they made the right choice in cutting down King Sombra's character rather than taking time away from the mane 6 and the actual plot.
