Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 3/20/09 - 3/24/09

This is just another example of the govt controlling the citizens. My debt is a mortgage that is about 50% of my house value even in a down market (I bought less home then I could afford and have made extra payments every month. My goal is to have my 30yr mortgage paid off in about 10-12yrs.) I currently have $2,000 owing on a credit card because I just needed major dental work and used my credit card that I keep for unexpected/necessary expenses. My savings is down by half because I had it in the stock market (should have followed Glen's advice). I think the govt should get out of the business of using tax dollars to get people to make the decisions they want made. I have a blog with my idea of taxation if anyone is interested http://revisedbillofrights.blogspot.com/ Some debt is good, it is used to buy businesses. If people would be responsible for themselves it wouldn't be anyone elses business what debt you have.

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Stand Up & Lead - 3/13/09 - 3/23/09

I am really glad so many people are getting fired up and appreciate Glen making this forum available. I just wanted to comment on some of the ideas. For example contacting congress doesn't seem to work, the phones were lit up opposing the stimulous bill and it still passed. The phones were swamped regarding immigration reform, true the bill did not pass but nothing was done, borders are not closed, the problem was not fixed. Mailing things in, regardless of what they are will be seen by the interns opening the mail and will have the same effect as calls/emails. I have another idea the only one that I can think of that will actually effect change and that is if we all get together to do a constitutional amendment instituting term limits. Something like 1 term for Senators and maybe 2 or 3 for Congress, but the specifics can be debated amongst us but if we got term limits and got rid of the entrenched power of the legislative branch we may actually have real Americans in power in Washington instead of career politicians that have no clue how the real world funtions. I also think it should include pay/benefits/retirment reform for elected officials.

Casone : Don\'t Mess with Texas (or their Congressman)

Here's a simple example of how ridiculous this concept is... lets say a school class has a test, they are told what will be on the test and what is required for a good grade then the test comes and half the students fail the test. The other half (the ones that studied) are really pleased with thier grades and proud of their achievement. After a little while, the teacher comes before the class and says some of the students feel bad that they got bad grades (while its true they didn't study) we dont want them to feel bad so everyone gets an A. That teacher just taught the entire class a horrible lesson. The kids that didn't study will never study and the ones that did are now disheartened and will not study either why should they there is no point to it. That teacher has just created a classroom of failures. I don't define failure as someone who tries and does not succeed every time but someone who tries, does what (s)he thinks is right and learns from their mistakes eventually they will succeed. A failure is someone who gives up, doesn't try or expects someone else to bail them out.

Here is one of our problems. Congress needs to stop encouraging Americans to default on legitimate contracts, from Citi field to mortgages. Everyone is being told if you don't like the deal you made, just get out of the contract. How is anyone going to trust anyone else if your word means nothing and you can't even rely on a contract. If you make a bad decision, you are responsible for your choices. You may have to suffer the consequenses for your choices. But that is real life, everyone can't be bailed out by the people that made good choices.

Liz-Vision : But What If It Works?

Good point but that is only half the story. Would you really take a loan out to buy that pizza dinner, especially knowing you are not going to be able to pay it back in your lifetime and it is going to fall on your children to pay it back with interest? I doubt you would. You would have a tuna casserole or peanut butter sandwiches instead until things picked up for you and you could buy a pizza without taking the loan. And if your kids complained that all you have had is tuna casserole and peanut butter sandwiches for the past week, you would explain the value of thrift and living within your means versus digging a big financial hole that gets deeper and deeper until you can't get out of it.

What is insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. It is possible that there will be a fluke and this time it will do something different but it is more likely that since things were starting to look up this week anyway, maybe it will take long enough for the negative effects to show that it may get some credit. Most business people know this is not going to help the economy but will do damage instead. I have a question I was trying to find the answer to. This happened because the real estate bubble burst right? Has Freddie and Frannie changed their lending practices and begun giving loans to people that can repay them or are they still giving charity loans? Also, I heard that of the loan modifications that were made, 70% of them were still in default. Is that better/worse? If anyone knows I would love to know the answers. Thanks.

GretaWire : question for you ...

When I travel I am with my 2 little boys. they are 3 and 5 now and we have been on several trips with multiple legs. I try to keep them relatively quiet and to keep them from throwing toys or kicking seats, pulling hair etc. I think everyone has their little annoyances some people talk too loud and constantly, some have their music so loud you can hear it even with your own phones on, I think usually you just have to endure most of it. My biggest complaint is the BO there is always someone who needs to find a shower and going into the plane you just hope he/she is not sitting by you. It seems to be alive you can smell it after they are gone.

GretaWire : OPEN THREAD -- BLOG !

In the words of a great politician, Rahm Emanuel, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before." So, okay, let’s go. How about returning to a country whose federal government is governed by the United States Constitution? I went through the Constitution and listed the items that the Federal Government should be collecting taxes for. Here’s my list: 1) Senators and representatives and President’s compensation 2) pay the national debt 3) Provide for the common defense 3) provide for the common welfare (this does not include charity the founders were clear about that, charity is to be voluntary not mandated by government) 4) Establish Post office and Post Roads 5) Promote the Progress of Science and Useful arts (oh, sorry, not with money but with patents and copywrites, so scratch that one) 6) Army and Navy. check out my blog for the rest of my plan http://sovereign-states.blogspot.com/
