I also got into tabletop/D&D relatively late! I played like one session as a high school senior, and then when I finished college and moved to my current city, joined a Pathfinder group as a way to make friends. And it's absolutely true with zero personal bias, us late-bloomer RPGers are the best and brightest and most flawless players, 100%.

That SOUNDS exciting!!! I am relatively new to tabletop and have only played Pathfinder with any regularity, but would love the room for cultural reference points that Shadowrun would allow, e.g. your character's badass Britney Spears fandom.
