I love that cartoon. It shows how lopsided the "militant" label is.

The Muslim and the Christian need to kill people to be called "militant." But the atheist just needs to kill sacred cows to be called "militant."

That statement, to me, smacks of racism.

And, the thing is that people don't want their religions to be mere placebos or forms of recreation to make them feel good.

Which is one of the reasons that I've never bought the Argumentum ad Solacium, the Appeal to Solace, for religion.

The idea, I think, is that Science and Religion can get along because Science and Religion are actually working together: Science is the "handmaiden" out there doing the dirty work of "justifying" Religion (exactly in areas dictated by Religion), but Science sometimes needs to be reminded that she is not allowed into Religion's bedchamber.
