How many of you have actually tried to take a boat up river between Ellis Harbor and Palo when the river is at "normal" level. Its nearly impossible unless you know the channel perfectly. My last venture in a flat bottom boat showed me a lot about how our river has changed. Average depth was only 12" folks. The main channel was 3-4 feet deep and less than 10 feet wide. The Cedar River is silted in so much that it does NOT have near the capacity as before the flood of 1993. I believe they should begin at the sand pits in Palo and DREDGE the river to increase its capacity. Sure, it isnt a permanent solution, but don't you think that if a flood wall were installed and the river wasn't maintained (dredged) the same silting issues will eventually catch up and make bigger problems upstream? Getting the river dredged to make it deeper would also minimize the sprawled out width, causing the water to recede from the banks which in turn would significantly minimize the silt issues. I have been shocked numerous times by watching different tiny women getting in the face of a man 3 to 4 times their size. I have NEVER seen a man hit a woman out there yet, though I am sure it happens. I have also never witnessed innocent bystanders, who mind their own business, get busted in the face. (Could happen) I hope the woman from this story makes a full and speedy recovery. However, I get the idea that this woman and her friend had something bad to say before the face smashing began.
