Secret Rings had some good ideas, but it suffered from the same things that have held back Sonic since his inception. You play Sonic games for their sense of speed. The combat is weak. It always has been, even in the 2D games, and it needs to be completely reworked. Sonic should be able to just plow through enemies, or something...something that wouldn't sacrifice the speed of the game. Stopping to stomp on enemies? Come on. Who does SEGA think this is, Mario?

"Pretty amazing that a console released eight years ago can stay relevant enough in 2008 to be bundled with a just-shipped game like LEGO Batman, don't you think?" I was thinking the same thing. And you know, the funny thing is...the PS2 was my least favorite console from the last generation. I didn't even remotely like the PS2. It had an ugly design, an over-saturated library and exclusives that just didn't appeal to me. But people still buy the damn thing new? In 2008? Amazing.

On a related note, Metallica has almost regained my respect with Death Magnetic. There are some cool riffs on this record, and it's nice to see Kirk Hammett ease up on the wah pedal for once. Coming from a devout metalhead who's been disgusted with Metallica's post-1991 output, that says something. It's not spectacular. But it's not a terrible record, at all.

Yeah, I'm not sure this event would've happened this year if not for the E3 fallout. Between apologizing for their E3 showing, getting Disaster in the limelight and this event...maybe they're trying to make amends with the core video game audience.

I wouldn't say the 360 is "selling in Japan." Total sales for the 360 in Japan? Little more than 700,000. For some perspective, the DS sold more than 518,000 in the US last month alone. This week is what we'd call an "anomaly."

I said when this game was announced that if it were printed on a limited run of actual NES cartridges, no matter what the price for consumers, I'd buy one and be thrilled. As it stands, Mega Man 9 is still a major disappointment for me...but this press kit is very cool. Too bad they couldn't get the game on there.

I've seen some people predict this is related to Nintendo's vaporous GameCube Kirby title that was allegedly shifted to Wii development, but honestly...I think that's expecting a bit much from Nintendo. I'd wager this will be a promotion of the Kirby DS remake. Nothing worth getting TOO excited about, in my honest opinion.

You'd rather play that emo drivel than Megadeth? Megadeth's music is extremely demanding to play, and the arrangements are often downright sophisticated. "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?" is one of thrash metal's defining moments; politically charged, flawlessly executed, jazz-influenced thrash. And that untrue stab at Megadeth fans? Unfortunate.
