KATU - Portland, OR : Security guards stand by while girl beaten | KATU.com - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weather -

I'm confused as to why it says "Portland, OR" and then "In a Seattle bus tunnel." Perhaps I'm misunderstanding something, because that sounds like it could have happened in two different places. Whether or not security guards can intervene in a fight has to do with the specific situation and the company guidelines. In most companies - but not all obviously - they can break up fights and detain people in situations when someone causes or intends bodily harm on another. Whether or not they were meant to observe and report, the company is obviously setting a bad example by restricting their employees from acting in the event of something like this.

This was probably one of the few days that they could use the building for training and they need to train in a real environment to be better equipped to deal with an emergency there. That's like getting upset that everyone doesn't celebrate presidents on Presidents Day.

I agree that the victims were stupid to release nude pictures of themselves. That's just asking for trouble... Either way, this guy is obviously a predator and it's a good thing he was caught now and not later. He needs to be locked away.

This kind of thing was an issue for my family when we lived in a Washougal suburb several years ago. One of our cats had come home riddled with metal BBs that caused perminant nerve damage to one leg. Allegedly, this had happened to many families in the area, but I don't know if anyone was ever caught. I doubt it's the same person, but whoever it is should be brought to justice. I have no tolerance for any form of animal cruelty, especially if the animal cannot defend itself.

I honestly think the idea of having year-round school or the alternating weeks (like the 8 weeks on, 3 weeks off or some other variation) is a great idea. I know it would be a downer for students, but I see a large group of teenagers and kids who need a lot more schooling, especially in math!

KATU - Portland, OR : Arizona driver dons monkey masks to elude tickets | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | National

I understand that people will stand up for what they believe in, but this just seems out of line in my honest opinion. These cameras were put in place to solve a problem and enforce a law that's been in effect for a long time. The only people who should be against them are the people breaking the law, and they deserve a ticket if they're putting others in danger. I do believe, however, that they could have put more effort into pulling this guy over so they could write him a ticket in person. Who knows, he may have become belligerent and/or violent enough to be taken into custody. That would likely have solved the problem before it became blown out of proportion.

KATU - Portland, OR : Only service animals allowed in stores, restaurants | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Local

I understand that people who need service dogs to live their life do not want to be required to answer questions or carry proof that their animal is indeed a service dog. I know it can be bothersome and uncomfortable to get questioned and stared at. On the other hand, I think it's outrageous that people don't have to carry any proof. There are many places and stores who will classify 'companion' animals as 'service' animals. Because anyone can claim they have a service animal without showing any proof, usually everyone who is asked will claim their animal is a service animal in some way or another. A 'companion' animal can be anything from a cat to a snake to a bird. Companion animals are not service animals. I don't care how depressed to co-dependant on another living creature you may be. Having to leave your dog at home when you're in a McDonalds or the Mall will not kill you. I personally find it very irritating when I see someone carrying a small dog in their purse with them and find it a bit digusting when that same dog is sitting on the table when they eat in a restaurant. That should not be allowed in any restaurant or store!

It shouldn't be the responsibility of the cop to work around their plans. Funeral or no funeral, you can't expect them to bend over backwards when it's not their fault that the family broke the law.

No disrespect to the dead, or to anyone mourning them, but I've been to a couple funerals in my life. If you show up 12 minutes before they put the body in the ground, you're most likely running late or it's a very short funeral. At least compared to the ones I've been to. And 12 minutes to write out 5 tickets; that's not long. Secondly, there's no reason you couldn't take 30 seconds to buckle your seat belt. I buckle my seat every time I get in a car, even if it's just to go down the street or across a parking lot! Take some responsibility for what you do and deal with the fact that it's your fault you missed it! The cops are just trying to do their job.

I've always wondered how they verify the identity of minors, especially the ones who are deemed old enough to go places on their own but not old enough to have a drivers license. They could give virtually any name and age and you couldn't really prove them wrong, could you? I've often wondered why we don't put some sort of minor identification card program into effect... but I syppose it'd cost too much government money.

KATU - Portland, OR : More ads coming to TV in places you might not expect | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Entertainment N

This is one of the leading reasons I lost my interest in most television. I never paid too much attention to the commercials to begin with, and if I wanted something bad enough then I'd go out and buy it without seeing it in a commercial! Ever since the Digital Conversion that happened, I haven't bothered watching TV. I just don't see the reason to buy the converter box so I can see more of the same old stuff, and I sure am not paying for cable or satellite!

What an unnecessary tragedy! I’m curious as to why a man over twice the age of anyone else in the vehicle was with them. That does seem a bit odd. Regardless, there’s absolutely no excuse to endangering or harming someone else. I hope that she actually learns a lesson from this.

KATU - Portland, OR : Bank teller tackles suspected robber, gets canned | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | News

Too many businesses are afraid to act against robberies of theft or any sort. The whole 'liability' claim comes into play. When it comes to a point where you cannot defend yourself or your company from a robber without fear of a lawsuit, then there's something very wrong about our laws. I know if I were ever going to rob a bank, one that is known for attacking bank robbers may deter me from going to that one! I think what Mr. Nicholson did was something to be proud of, not fired for!

That's quite a chunk of change to be spending. I'm a pretty solitary person and wouldn't have too big of a problem living alone in a large building. However, the fact that most of the amenities and perks they were supposed to have for purchasing a condo (the pool, gym, game room, fountain) are either not operational or not maintained by any staff is an obvious problem. In my opinion, if they're paying for the condo, they should get all the services (such as trash service) that they would rightly get. It's sad they got the short end of the stick with this deal...

How is this really news? There are countless people for and against gay marriage as well as any other topic of debate. I'm sure it's important to someone, but I fail to see why another book on the topic is of any importance. That, and I personally suspect this book is more of a stab towards the Miss California USA pageant than gay marriage.
