There's an old aphorism in Hollywood (of all places!) that provides an apt description of the problem where an up-&-coming-type, or an old has-been, has gone off the rails, despite outside appearances of having "all the right stuff"... one who has lost all sense of proportion or reality. (I'm not usually in the habit of borrowing quotations from H'wood-at-large, tho' pithy, old-fashioned common sense & machismo from the likes of John Wayne, Bogart, et al are an entirely forgivable exception to that rule...) I mention this because it seems *so* illustrative in the present case. Much like show-biz celebs who have become *entirely* too enamored of their own personality-cults, our little antagonist "deleted4506018" has now proven with the above quote that he/she/it "reads too many of his own press-clippings!" (One is supposed to remember at all times that all the favorable reviews are generated by *paid* hacks, and bear no reliable relationship to reality whatsoever!) Meanwhile, in a stunning display of ignorance to the meaning of the words "bitter irony", the entire Left-o-sphere accuses *US* of living in an echo-chamber/bubble where no outside truths can ever penetrate... >*snort!*< "Cogito, ergo TEA Party!" ~ DeepWheat ps: Why do I find myself wondering if this f'idiot fleabagger is submitting his polysyllabic meanderings to his Alinsky-philic college professor for actual grades/extra-credit? I know a guy who was a secondary-school principal for 30-some years, and a darn good one at that. But the guy could scarcely spell C-A-T = "dog"... His syntax and punctuation skills were no better, BUT, he was wise enough to realize his shortcomings, and whenever he had a written letter or document that had to "go out" (ESPECIALLY if it went out to the parents!), he made absolutely sure his words were THOROUGHLY PROOF-READ BEFORE THEY LEFT HIS OFFICE! Dr. Moreno has some cogent thoughts here, though as earlier commenters have noted, he might have "closed the circle" rather better vis-a-vis the Republic that is the True Legacy of the Founders. But the greater puzzle to me is how & why BG's Editor-in-Chief Mike Flynn allowed this post before it was proofed and ready-for-prime-time, you know? I mean, come on, "Democarcy"? IN THE TITLE/HEADLINE??! Please! While many of us can see through the errata to discern Dr. Moreno's intended meaning(s), I can't see my way clear to re-posting or linking this to others, as if to tacitly approve such sloppy scrivening... PLEASE, Dr. Moreno AND Editor Flynn: we CAN do better!

In a nutshell, starting from the center, in INCREASING order-of-magnitude (i.e., each next "ism" being further to the LEFT of center): LIBERALISM, featuring enlarged gov't, with attendant increased regulation of citizens' lives and occupations; FASCISM, which still features broad private OWNERSHIP of property & enterprise, but near-total gov't control of BOTH; SOCIALISM, where little of consequence is privately owned, and everything of consequence is gov't regulated; COMMUNISM, where private property & enterprise ceases utterly to exist, under a totally controlling central gov't. Love the idea, but there may be a real difficulty in attempting a new start-up against TCM (and AMC, for that matter...). Check me if I'm wrong, but I believe the foundation of TCM lies in the enormous library of old movies that Ted Turner bought up back when he was newly flush with money from his then-new upstart CNN... I believe he *still* has a huge number of original reels of celluloid deep-stored in the old Carey salt mines under Hutchinson (NW of Wichita, in central KS)... I *think* it would probably be prohibitively expensive to pay the royalties/exhibitor's fees, etc, just to get the "classic" material on the air... add to that the "No Commercials" mandate? [*sigh*] As much of an uphill battle as it likely will be to ever teach Libs like Ben Mankiewicz how to behave themselves in polite company, it may prove MUCH more attainable, certainly in the near-term... I'm just sayin', because the notion of a Conservative-run movie channel (perhaps an extension of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp/Fox empire?!) is HUGELY appealing to me otherwise!! :-)

Transparency notice: I've not seen this movie yet either, so my comment here is strictly in response to Dallas Jenkins' piece here at BH... First and foremost? Well said, Mr. Jenkins! "... The title of [Mark] Blankenship’s piece is, “Should We Want Movies Like The Blind Side?” Think about that question. My first response would be: It’s. A. True. Story. ... ... ..." Thirty years ago, after I read the book "Midnight Express", I went eagerly to see the movie, only to discover that Oliver Stone took the remarkable True Story of Billy Hayes' arrest, conviction, imprisonment and eventual amazing escape from a hellish prison in Turkey and turned it into an utterly gratuitous piece of fiction, for no greater apparent reason than because he (or someone) thought it made a better story... Wait a minute. Oliver Stone? Oh, yeah, he won an Oscar for that screenplay, didn't he? Well, I guess it's okay then... nevermind. Stone is just a poster-child [e pluribus unum!!] for an entire industry that never lets Truth *or* Facts get in the way of telling a Good Story. If "The Blind Side" actually does stick to the True Story, they ought to award a Special Oscar just for the occasion... Oh, wait. Don't they give out Oscars for Documentaries? Yeah... I just saw Hannah's Dad, Doug Giles, at a speaking appearance at K-State here in Manhattan KS... no mystery where Hannah gets the *guts* to take on a modern-day Goliath like ACORN!! May God watch over Hannah, James and Andrew as they go forth from here ... I don't envy them for the battle(s) ahead, the libel and the slander that will undoubtedly come their way, *BUT*, I hope they know there are *lots* of us across the country who believe in their cause, and we're saying prayers every day for them to have the fortitude to carry on to victory!
