Yes, commodities markets are responsible for price instabilities, but they wouldn't have the force they do if oil was readily available everywhere. You're also right that prices settle more slowly after a panic hike, as it takes awhile for refineries to go through oil that they bought with futures contracts. The fact that the average US citizen doesn't consider that most of the garbage they overconsume from WalMart supports the Chinese, is about par for the course. WalMart really started the Made in China trend more than any other company--that's why I shop there as little as I can, as I see no proof that they support the American worker instead of selling us out for their "lower prices."
