The Wild Hunt : PantheaCon Day 3

If you ever want to do that, feel welcome to talk to me or talk to us on the Pagan Podcasting messageboard. A bunch of us do this stuff outside of our podcasts and can probably give pointers on the logistical issues. Personally, given how hotel convention environments are, if the cell network is somewhat reliable, you may want to install qik on your phone and use that to stream low-resolution audio live.

The Wild Hunt : Native Beliefs on Trial and other Pagan News of Note

I think it's about time the issue of non-Natives who have barely a loose understanding of Native American practice, being considered experts on Native American practice - rather than the actual natives doing the actual practices! This is an issue that gets brought up quite frequently on Pagan Centered Podcast, and hopefully the broader community will become aware of this as well. Personally, I think it's silly to group someone pretending to do Native American practice in with those performing relatively authentic practices. However, our legal system has proven itself to embrace silliness rather than common sense on many occasions.

The Wild Hunt : United's Pagan Problem

So, you believe everyone who claims to be a victim of religious discrimination is legitimately being discriminated against. Furthermore, you believe it never has to do with someone's lack of productivity and actual breaking of the law (as we saw with certain "druids" a few years ago). You said something discriminating, I'm just accentuating the stupidity of your discriminatory remarks. In this particular scenario, since someone has already been fired, chances are that things happened the way the reverend said they did. This doesn't seem to be a "he said"/"she said" hullabaloo as the situations you reference often are.

The Wild Hunt : Witch School Makes the Move to Salem

I didn't think it was a great idea to put Witch School in a fundie town in the first place. Additionally, it wasn't excessively bright to be making such a big splash in a fundie town before making the townsfolk more comfortable with such an unusual (to them) theology. There comes a time where "well, they'll just have to accept us *slams foot on floor and crosses arms*" just isn't an appropriate way to address an interfaith situation.. Also, let's focus on the fact that it wasn't the fundies that kicked them out, it was lack of internet connectivity for their internet-intensive school. The digital divide is real and it'd be greatly appreciated if people stopped turning a blind eye to it.

The Wild Hunt : What Does a Diminished Religion Beat Mean for Us?

Dang accurate research. Can't we just look at something that appears to confirm our bias and be done with it? I'm still trying to ban ice cream as it obviously leads to more crime. Just look at the crime stats, whenever ice cream sales are up, so is crime!!! *sarcasm* I have to agree, it's a bit weird for JPW to miss such a glaringly obvious flaw in this article. Eh, we're all allowed to make mistakes once in a while.

How about just making the major political parties cover the costs of keeping Congress operational when they just use it as a stage for pointless partisan bickering? This way the folks that keep Congress running don't lose their jobs.

*sarcasm* Don't you know, congressmen are apparently paid by the hour. That's why Republicans are pushing House Resolution 694 so they no longer have to read any bills. Congress saves money if they don't actually read the bills they vote into law - they're paid hourly yanno. The Republicans are just trying to save us money, it has nothing to do with mindlessly fast-tracking bills like happened with USA PATRIOT. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=hr1...

The Wild Hunt : Avoiding Pagan Dollars

As I remember hearing all the time when I lived in PA: but but but... the *insert new business that wants to move in* will put us out of business! Not our sub-par quality merchandise or our lack of customer service. And what do ya know, the business' permits wind up stalled for years on end, every single time (when neither bribery nor nepotism is involved). Not quite a bailout, but same effects.

Nah, if recent times has showed us anything, it's that they'll just be asking for a government bailout because the economy is bad. Not that they had bad business practices that put them in a bad economic situation - nope... it's the economy!

The Wild Hunt : The Future of (Pagan) Journalism

I honestly don't think we'll see professional Pagan *anything* on a large-scale until Pagans stop moaning and groaning whenever they have to pay for something other than materials or admission to happy-naked-Pagan-camp gatherings. Once this mindset (somehow) changes, we may be able to make many more Pagan-related things more economically viable rather than relying on the charity of those who want Paganism to thrive.

The Wild Hunt : Quick Note: (Wanting to be a) Famous Pagan

The problem I see with this is most members of the Pagan Community seem to be Wiccan (or some eclectic mix thereof). From a theological standpoint, it seems, to me, Wicca's concept of honor is concerns itself only with respecting elders. As a Wiccan, this doesn't sit well with me so I try to go beyond Wicca's minimal honor code myself. I see nothing wrong with adding something to my personal spiritual practice that isn't part of the Wiccan religion as long as I don't claim it to be Wiccan practice and it isn't in stark contradiction to the core tenants of the religion. The podcast I co-host puts it in a more blunt way: don't (just) be an ass, be an asset. Though being an asset in itself does not necessarily mean they are honorable.

The greatest thing about being influential yet unknown is that you typically get what you want while still retaining the ability to be yourself without being considered a reflection upon the entire Pagan community... oh, and people can still feel good about not liking you. OMG, BNP just jaywalked. Does that mean all Pagans jaywalk? Should I as a good Pagan jaywalk? Oh my, why do I have so little self-esteem that I'm trying to mold my actions to mimic that of another person? /sarcasm
