Come on... I *believe* there are about 1000 spaces down there, I think that's what I've heard but I am not certain. Do you really think there are not 1000 driving employess down there? I think there are many more than that. And those employees... they seem to be doing fine Monday through Saturday, I'm sure they'll figure out a way to deal with Sunday as well. Businesses get that leisure dollar by having traffic in their stores. They need the volume, they need the turnover. They'll get more business and hire more employees thereby helping, not hurting the economy. Guess we'll have to wait a while to see who's right in this matter. If a few months from now, the business owners are crying for the city to reverse itself then you were right. I'm thinking we'll hear how much better they are doing on Sundays. Time will tell.

Fortunate indeed! We had a bat that was sleeping on our walkway for a few days - it would be there in the morning and would leave at night but return the next day... It was strange... eventually, he died, I'm sure he was sick, it's jut not normal for them to be out in the open like that. My girlfriend poked it with a stick (seriously, she did... just like a kid would!) After she did that I read up on them a bit and told her not to mess with it again! One of the scary things is they can sometimes bite you and their teeth are so small and sharp that you may not even feel the bite! So be thankful for sure that the kids didn't get one of those unfelt bites!!

That is the first thing you've said that makes sense to me. I do agree that the weekends are a bit different with the business vs. leisure deal. However, how do businesses get that leisure dollar if people have no place to park their cars? Right now, there are few spots available on Sunday simply because the workers are parking thier cars there all day long, thereby not allowing the leisure people to have access to parking.

Why must you stoop to insulting people's intelligence when their veiwpoint does not parallel yours? Guess we'll soon see how poorly the waterfront is doing on Sundays when the business owners cry for the city to repeal the limit. Currently it is hard to arrive there but it's certainly not hard to stay there. You can pay for parking at a private lot should you so choose. Disneyland charges around $100 to enter their theme park... you'd think the parking would be free. Nope, shell out another 15 bucks. And, I think they've got the whole "attracting people to recreational areas" thing figured out pretty dang well.

I do like your 4 hour limit better than 2... the only thing I see that might make that not very effective is the same employees that are using the spaces all day will still to so - they'll only need to sneak off once in the work day to move their car to another spot...

It has nothing to do with PAYING, it's a TIME limit. If there were no time limits anywhere in the city (going along with your thinking) nobody would have any place to park. Period. All the spots would be taken up by folks who abandon their cars or leave them at the ferry dock areas, etc...

seattlekc - The idea is to ALLOW people like yourself to spend time (and of course money) down there. Right now, all the employees of the shops park there all day, thus preventing those spots from being able to be used by customers. It seems to work pretty good for everyone the other 6 days of the week, what's the big deal? One day in the not-too-distant future, Seattle will likely start charging on Sundays too... and all pay spots will be 8am-8pm, like Vancouver BC... then, you'll be right to complain!

As for the destruction of personal belongings - imagine the entry team barging into the house, in the dark, wearing their gas masks (which hinder vision), seraching frantically for a guy that is (in their minds, given the info they had at the time) waiting in the dark to kill them. Once the decision is made to go in dynamically, they are not going to go in nicely and quietly to preserve material things. First and foremost, they want to stay alive, secondly, they want to get the bad guy inside and get him as quickly as possible.

Your first paragraph may or may not have some credibility, I know not of the personal "rage and revenge" of the officers involved. To compare the large resisdence to the small bunker isn't really apples to apples with the use of tear gas. The small bunker would need much less gas to be filled than the large home... that's why 12 canisters were used. It's a simple matter of cubic feet of air that needs to be saturated. And, in the home there are many rooms - if you know a little about the way tear gas works, there are ways to help mitigate its effectiveness inside a house. As funny as it may sound, sticking your head in the toilet while repeatedly flushing it provides a source of fresh air.

So, when Clemon's aunt said Clemons was headed to her home... what should the police have done? There was good evidence at the scene to indicate he was there - fresh blood and such... Yes, Seattle SWAT trashed that house, bad. They were working under the assumption that a man who killed 4 police officers was inside, based on the aunt's info and evidence at the scene - kind of hard to point the blame at Seattle SWAT. But, the City also fixed it and did so quickly.... As they should have. That lady was the only one that was trying to do the right thing, it's unfortunate that her house was damaged so badly but, it was taken care of to the tune of a million dollars.

The US Supreme Court ruling is simply saying the US Constituion does not require it. Among other things, the oath of office for police officers usually states the officer will abide by their department's code of ethics. Therein, it usually states something of the officer's obligation to protect life and property. Anyone who takes an oath seriously, should understand their obligation to carry out the terms of that oath, whatever they might be. This is above and beyond any requirements, or lack thereof, outlined in our Constitution.

He's talking about TWA flight 800 that many people believe was shot down by a missle. The official explanation was that fuel in an amost empty tank exploded. However, with no segue into his rant, most people aren't going to make that connection.
