I totally agree. Charity work can be a great way to get some exposure. The only problem is when you get small organizations asking for pro-bono work. You aren't likely to get the same after effect from that sort of work. But, if it is a organization you feel strongly about it usually feels good to do the work regardless of the outcome.

Its funny you say that. I actually did the exact opposite recently. Went from dual monitors back to just my iMac monitor.

I was feeling overwhelmed with two monitors and having so much going on.

You make a really good point. �Asking for specifics is VERY important. �Like you said, �people outside the design community may not know what they are looking for. �When requesting feedback, �always go into it with a specific question in mind, 3 max.

If you ask too many questions, you probably wont get very many answers. �If you dont ask enough questions you might not get the answers you are looking for.

You make many valid points.� I just want to clear up the fact that I dont think the free things I do for clients are the only reason they come back.� I think its just an added bonus.� That said,� I totally know what you mean about starting to resent clients.� I have had a few of those in the past and its just not a good feeling.� I dont usually have a lot of clients go overboard with asking for \"free things\" and when they do, its mostly because they don't know any better, not because they are trying to take advantage of me.

You make a great point.� I think packages can be a great way to add to your business.� This is of course assuming you can create outstanding marketing, copy-writing, and other services.� If your design work is awesome, but your additional survices are subpar, then these extras could do more to hurt you than to help improve your customer service.

No where did I say phase out your portfolio site. �I am merely suggesting using these other sites as a way to drive visitors to your portfolio, or at the very least contact you. �In which case you could point the visitor to your portfolio.

LOL...why do you feel dirty at DeviantArt? �I love that site, �but Im really big into art. �I have bought a ton of prints from there. �That said, �it isnt really the most web design related social network site out there.

Flickr is great for sure. �I think out of all the ones I use, this is the one I under use the most.
