Shaun in the City : The Myth of Jesus & Critics

I, for one, wouldn't be able to separate when I was being a critic in a righteous way, and when I was just being mean. Moreover, I'd probably end up being more of a stumbling block than anything actually productive coming out of what I said.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Reacting to Anne Rice.

Yes, I think it is the going "fad" to oppose, reject, apologize for (etc.) Christianity while claiming to hold to Christ. It's sad that we can so easily overlook the fact that there are Christians our there who do live up to the "high-flying rhetoric" and actually do love their neighbors and turn the other cheeks. I guess it's true, those who bark the loudest... The church has it's fair share of hypocritical leaders. It has it's fair share of people highlighting one sin over the other, but it also has it's fair share of people who legitimately care. And I'm left to wonder if taking positions such as this one do anything to better the body of Christ.

Claiming to not like something is a bit different than rejecting and abandoning it completely. The two quotes aren't even comparable in reality. One is claiming to follow Christ while the other would say it was, "your" Christ.

I don't quite remember when I started reading. It has been a while, but not more than 6 months. I remember first stumbled upon the blog and reading as much as I could in one sitting, while holding my side from the laughter. Good times.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Is “Restore Stephen Baldwin” a real ministry?

I'm going out on a limb here because I seem to have a different opinion on this then some on your Facebook page. And my sin of pride doesn't like it when I'm the only one with a particular viewpoint on a situation. I'm aligning myself in the 'fake' camp. And if this proves to be fake I think it highlights a fundamental problem within the church, and that is our willingness to abuse the bride of Christ by judging others within the church. Not constructively, not lovingly, just nasty. I think you're right, we need to find a way to have room for dialogue, and for correction. At the end of the day I wonder what that looks like, and how do we get there without sounding harsh and judgmental.

"the touch...the feel...of cotton..." lol Loved that part! Mainly because when I hear jingles for brands, I know that that somewhere, someone is putting every bit of emotion into it. Hand on the ear, eyes closes, and face scrunched up like crazy. I couldn't help but notice all the fake southern accents in "Neighborville". lol. Awesome production, but then again I love cheesey stuff.

Danny Eason : Awake

woo! I'm terrified as well. I remember what happened last time we pray for a radical movement of God. Easily the most trying time in my life. I don't want to say I want to go back to that, because I think God has greater things in store. So I anxiously tremble at the thought of what God will do.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : What are you praying about?

I would ask that you pray for my wife and I. We have a baby due on the 27th of June and it has been a rough ride! God is great though and has sustained us thus far. Prayers for the church that I have the ability to serve as pastor would be greatly appreciated as well. We live in a community where 80% of the people don't go to church and the task seems daunting. Guidance is needed! Also, I will be taking time through out my day to pray for the request on here as well.

Danny Eason : We Over-corrected

Yo! This is addressed to the church as a whole and wasn't an implication of anything I'm currently faced with. Looking at the entirety of Christianity though, I'm saddened by how often we speak with judgment and condemnation to those we serve along side of.

jackalopekid.com : that one's worse

The penalty for all sin is death. I get that. All sin separates us from God. I get that. Any sin is against an infinite and eternal God and thus not ok. But that does not imply that sin is all equal. I'm not trying to pit scripture against scripture, I know that it all reconciles together, but there are several scriptures that seem to imply a difference in the severity of sins. 1 John 5:16-19 Matt. 23:14-15; 32-33 John 19:11 Matt. 12:31-32 (blasphemy is well known, the point being if it is unforgivable, we already have at least 2 different types of sin. Those forgivable and the one that is not) Matt. 11:20-24 The idea isn't that we should walk around declaring, "Well I may be an adulterer but least I'm not a murderer." But rather live a life knowing and displaying that we all need God's grace to redeem us from the slavery of sin. I spent my whole life being taught that all sin was equal in the eyes of God. But have recently come to see that may not be the case. I wonder if penalty is always equal to consequence?
