Big Hollywood : 'About a Boy' Director Makes Pro-Illegal Immigration Videos Calling Opponents Racist

Weitz grandfather married a mexican actress, and Weitz wife is Cuban Mexican. Nuff said! He is incapable of creating a fair and balanced documentary on illegal immigration! Notice how most advocates of illegal immigration only support it whenit comes to Mexicans! Ask them if the same passion and support applies to Canadian illegals in the film business taking away jobs from American actors, screenwriters, and directors ...you d be surprised to see how fast their tune changes! I'm for an open borders policy for both borders--- but that idea scares Weitz --- so I shall call him a bigot, and a hypocrite, because he disagrees with me!

Big Hollywood : Showtime's Golden Globe-Winning 'Homeland' Isn't Another Anti-American Show - Yet

I agree with you, Janke's review was terrible, and completely off the mark. I love this show, it's a psychological thriller with a lot of nuances, which makes it too complex for most people to understand and appreciate. It was more plausible than 24, and it's about as anti American as apple pie.

Big Hollywood : Karma: Actors Quick to Mock GOP as Dumb Embarrass Themselves at Golden Globes

WIth respect Christian, but what is the point of this piece? But I expect candidates running for the highest office in the country to be exceedingly smarter than celebs. A celeb making a gaffe or two during an awards show cannot be compared to Bachmann or Palin. I understand people here like to make celebrity bashing a daily sport, but it's a bit hypocritical when you consider the many high profile conservatives/ republicans actors who critized Obama AND also made gaffes at award shows. The recent debates serve as proof that candidates running for office make endless gaffes far exceeding the ones made by slightly intoxicated celebs at awards shows. That is far more troubling!

Big Hollywood : 'The Artist' Review: Ode to Classic Hollywood Crushes Soulless Modern Films

There is nothing more I could add to Maatkare 's review. This is a beautiful, evocative, charming, whimsical, joyous, homage to silent movies....it must be experienced! Berenice is luminescent! And Auggie , the Jack Russell Terrior won the 2011 Palm Dog Award! Really! He deserves an honorary Oscar. I predict this movie will sweep The Golden Globes, and garner the most Oscar nominations, and by fiat, the most Oscars! PERFECTION!

Big Peace : Navy Vet May Be Evicted For Hanging Flag

FYI - St Vincent de Paul of Lane County is a massive Non profit that gets funding from foundations who are conservative and support our veterans. That funding would have come to an end. Clearly Terry McDonald realized that the bad publicity, along with massive cuts in gov't funding, jeopardized his bottom line. Personally I don't care what motivated his change of heart, I m just glad the "issue was resolved"

Umm the problem has been resolved: Tenant’s Personal Flag Will Be Displayed at Apartments St. Vincent de Paul has received a lot of attention today regarding a tenant who was asked to stop hanging a flag from the side of the apartment complex without permission. We would like to share the following updated information. On Friday Mr. Zivica provided a list of dates when he would like to fly his flag. St. Vincent de Paul immediately agreed that a second flag should be hung on those dates. Our tenant feels this issue is resolved and has expressed his satisfaction to us and the local news. Some additional information: This was never an issue about patriotism or respect for veterans. St. Vincent de Paul sponsors numerous emergency assistance, housing and job training opportunities for veterans. This was never about the American flag; a lit American flag flies on a flagpole at the complex 24/7. We are pleased that this issue has been resolved and we sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding.

Setting The Record Straight --- A Cutline reader points out that in 2008, CNN did, in fact, co-host a Democratic primary debate with a progressive group--the Congressal Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute, in South Carolina. So much for the false claim "CNN didn’t team up with political progressives, who helped shape the 2008 presidential campaign, during that election cycle"

Big Peace : Muslim Brotherhood Trying to Sanitize Their Image: Remove Incriminating Statements From English-Lang

Well then you must all be worried about Iraq, after all the Leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Iraq is Iraqi VP Tariq Al-Hashemi. And that isn't by accident. Interesting to note that it was ONLY Al-Hashemi that kept demanding American troops leave Iraq, and always referred to American troop presence as an "occupation" Of course he says he's "stepped down" as the MB Leader, but surely you all 'KNOW' that he said that just to appease Americans - like the Muslim Brotherhood "scrubbing " of their English Website. If you are so worried about the Muslim Brotherhood coming to power in Egypt - then you MUST be EVEN MORE concerned about their multi year presence in the Iraqi Gov't that came about with the help of US forces who liberated Iraqi's so they could hold just and fair elections. Yet I haven't heard anyone who runs this website or any of you knowledgeable "commenters' proclaim OUTRAGE that our troops paid with their lives to help install the LEADER of the Muslim Brotherhood in Iraq as its VP -- no condemnation of Bush? No Outrage about Al-Hashemi and the MB presence in Iraq's gov't. I guess it would be too embarrassing for you all to admit that Bush helped bring the Muslim Brotherhood to power in Iraq. And NO OUTRAGE by all you knowledgeable people about the Muslim Brotherhood members who sit on the Knesset in Israel? Or about how the US turned a blind eye to Israel & Jordan use of the Muslim Brotherhood to help create a civil war in Syria? Again - the US aligning with the Brotherhood! LONG. BEFORE. OBAMA. Egypt's 3rd Pres, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Anwar Sadat was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood even during his time as Egypt's President. Sadat with support from the US used Egypts Islamic Fundamentalism to usurp Nasser's Arab Nationalism because it wasn't in America's best interest - Arab Nationalism wasn't in the US best interest, but apparently Islamism was! LONG BEFORE OBAMA became President the US and by fiat that means YOU commenters - since you are all US citizens -have supported the rise of Islamism as a way to stop the spread of Communism. Mission Accomplished! LONG BEFORE OBAMA became President, The US spent BILLIONS of dollars in AFG supporting the mujahideen who were led by and composed of MB members and allied groups - in their fight against Soviet Union - to help stop the spread of Communism. Mission Accomplished! So By your silence over the past few decades, you are accomplices in creating the mess that you blame on Obama - the US support and rise of Islam and their alignment with the Muslim Brotherhood PREDATES OBAMA. I don't like Obama NOT.ONE.BIT. --- but he's not to blame for the growth of Islamic fundamentalism nor is he the first President to align himself with the Muslim Brotherhood because it was in America's "best interest" You Reap. You Sow.

Big Journalism : Al-Jazeera Loses Its Luster with Logan Assault Cover-up

Wow.Media bias/distortion that suit network agendas -- that NEVER happens in the US!!! So your point is that because AJE is following the example set by US networks - they should be condemned? Speaking of "Accuracy in Media" AJE's LIVE BLOG on FEB 16 does mention the attack on Lara Logan: 12:48 am Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher expresses his condolences for Lara Logan from CBS News in the US. She was beaten and sexually assaulted while covering the protests in Egypt. "Thoughts with my friend and former colleague @CBSNews Lara Logan who suffered brutal attack in #Egypt - hope she gets well and recovers soon" It linked to the piece on CBS Website. Which American media outlet covered the story about AJE bureau chief and his female colleague were detained by the Mubarak regime, blindfolded and cuffed for a day on a concrete floor? I've watched AJE coverage- not just about Egypt- but their coverage on all kinds of issues around the globe for the past month - its running 24/7 in Canada -and on many issues that American Media distorts to suit their agenda ---AJE offers far more honest coverage. AJE's biases exist but they are NOWHERE NEAR as prevalent as the US Media's biases including FOX. It's more than fair to say that when it comes to distortion/biases in media coverage that suits agendas, AJE is in good company with, but lagging behind, ABC/CNN/FOX/NBC/CBS/MSNBC. As for Accuracy in Media --- why haven't they bothered to note that the all media coverage in the US fails to mention that MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD was both covertly and overtly funded by the US during the Cold War and were complicit in the overthrow of King Farouk & then years later, the planning of the assassination attempt on Nasser using the MB to execute the attempted assassination.T he US has a history of getting into bed with organization that do their bidding when the tides shift, the bedmates shift. For decades, the US felt that ISLAM was the biggest detterent to spreading Communism. So they US actively engaged in helping the spread of Islam and used the Muslim Brotherhood to do it! Funny how that never gets mentioned in ANY discussion about the Muslim Brotherhood, by ANY US Media. When the Media engages in discussing fears about the MB having some representation in the new Egyptian Gov't why does the US media fail to mention that Iraqi VP Tariq Al Hashimi was and still remains the leader of the MB in Iraq. Accuracy in Media would be far wiser to spend more time focusing on US media's LACK of accuracy and context than pointing out ONE story that failed to be covered on the AJE's tv broadcast. Interestingly I fail to notice "Accuracy in Media' acknowledge that AJE's Online Blog & Reporter did in fact mention the attack on Lara, that Fisher's tweet was retweeted and retweeted and retweeted BEFORE the story became BIG in the US media.

Big Peace : Does the Muslim Brotherhood Have A Future In Egypt?

Fear mongering from people who have never set foot in Egypt and can't seem to get facts right on anything. Let's start with a history lesson: After WW2 The Muslim Brotherhood and The Baath Party were both supported and backed by the US & The Soviet Union who were opposed to continuing the European Colonial Empires. #1 Mubaracks gov't included members of the Muslim Brothers who ran as independents but who Mubarak KNEW were MB. # 2 Muslim Brotherhood has 2 maybe 3 members in the Knesset! Yes that's right. The MB operates in Israel under the name 'The Islamic Movement" #3 Why aren't any of you fear mongers concerned about the Muslim Brotherhood in IRAQ? I m betting you don't know that Iraq's Vice President was and still remains the general secretary of Iraqi Islamic Party AKA the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD. So its okay for MB to be IN GOV'T IN IRAQ - but not Egypt where they have renounced violence since the 70's? Scarface - how come you didn't need to be prepared for the MB being IN THE GOVT IN IRAQ??? And to get the facts right on one more meme put forward by the ignorant and the stupid: THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD IN EGYPT WAS NOT NOT NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE KILLING OF SADAT OR THE ATTEMPT ON MUBARAK. It was members of Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya an umbrella organization for militant student groups like Egyptian Islamic Jihad, which were both formed AFTER the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood renounced violence in the 1970s. They also attempted to kill Mubarak. It was Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya that was responsible for major terrorist attacks in Egypt in the 90's including those at Luxor . Yesterday Key Members of the Student Youth Group that led the revolt in Egypt that toppled Mubarak met for several hours with the Military Command and outlined a wonderful plan to get transition Egypt to free elections within 6 months To be fair I understand Arabic - but for those that don't a reasonable good translation is available via Google Translator. http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=20317273... You will need to translate it but it's a better use of your time than repeating worn out dis-proven memes about the MB in Egypt. I've actually spent time in Egypt, so I know Egyptians - I've been surrounded with them most of my life, both my parents were born in Egypt but are not Egyptian - my mom is an American and she's Jewish, Dads Brit/Canadian and they are both appalled at the amount of unbridled ignorance that comes from the mouths of Americans with regard to Egypt, the Brotherhood, the people of Egypt , the culture and their history. Egyptians are Patient, peaceful, good-humored, resilient, imaginative, they have keen minds, generous hearts & a great sense of humor Even an IDF General has written a piece explaining how Egypt is NOT Gaza and the MB is NOT HAMAS.He should know since he's spent years directly involved with both: http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/opinion/egyp... "The Egyptian people have a character unlike that of other Arab peoples in the region. The Egyptians are unlike the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank or Jordan; nor are they like the Shiites in Lebanon. This is a proud, modest people which has never been in the thrall of religious fanaticism, despite the Islamic revolutions that have swept the region. Thus, the prospect that Egypt will join the so-called axis of evil whose base is Iran is slight. Even if the Muslim Brotherhood rises to power under the cover of democratic elections - it is not an organization that can be likened to Hamas. Religious enthusiasm does not spawn political developments in Egypt which can be comparable to those prompted elsewhere in the Arab world."

The July 23 Revolution in 1952, began with a military coup d'état by a group of young army officers who named themselves "The Free Officers Movement". The revolution was aimed at overthrowing King Farouk and was backed financially & morally by both the US & Soviet Union --In time - this movement would later move to abolish the constitutional monarchy and establish a republic. The Jan 25 Revolution in 2011 did NOT begin with a military coup nor was it backed by the US or Russia nor the Brotherhood. The pro democracy protesters were not part of an American/Russian attempt to secure control over the Egypt and stop an empire from expanding. Nor was this revolution backed by, created by, nor funded by the Muslim Brotherhood. The events in Egypt in 1952 were about usurping a British backed monarchy to stop the growth of the British Colonialism and for the Americans to control the Suez Canal. The events in Egypt today are not about usurping any authority – be it British or US or controlling the Suez or building an Islamic Caliphate or a theocracy. Egypt has the biggest middle class in the Middle East and these activists were not burning effigies of the US or chanting Islam Is the Way, Islam is the Future. Jihad is the Future. Islam is the Solution. Down with America. Down with Israel. This revolution is not about wanting to install an Islamic regime with Sharia These activists were shouting for social justice, democracy, equality, opportunity, freedom of expression. To the contrary it was MUBARAK – the man you wanted us to stay in bed with out of fear that the MB would “take control”- is the man who fomented anti Americanism via State TV propaganda which portrayed pro democracy demonstrators and all foreign journalists as agent provocateurs of the US and Israel. Security regimes and police states increase the danger of terrorism and Egyptians know this even if Americans don't know it or want to believe this truth. The Egyptians aren't interested in invading Israel, destroying Israel, or becoming suicide bombers & jihadis. This is a pro democracy movement and these protesters didn’t risk all to fall prey to a fundamentalist Islamic regime. .

Big Peace : Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood: In Their Own Words

The Muslim Brotherhood can believe anything they want - they make any stupid claims about Islam that they want --and Americans can buy their hype and live in fear - its what the Brotherhood wants - for some reason they are able to scare you far more than Egyptians . That speaks volumes about the intelligence of Egyptians and the lack of intelligence by Americans. The people of Egypt have stood up in unity against a thug who has been in pwer for 30 yrs and they stood strong against his band of thugs - and you fools are worried that they will have done all that only to allow a repressive theocratic gov't to be born! You have NO concept of Egypt, its people, its many languages, its history. It would appear even the ISRAELIS no better than you: From Haaretz: The Egyptian people have a character unlike that of other Arab peoples in the region. Religious enthusiasm does not spawn political developments in Egypt which can be comparable to those prompted elsewhere in the Arab world. http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/opinion/egyp...

Big Peace : Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood: In Their Own Words

You people are as tone deaf as Hosni Mubarak! The Muslim Brotherhood has NOT played any major role in the events in Egypt. Not only does that TRUTH come from Peter Bergen who is far better qualified and knowledgeable about the Brotherhood than most- including the author of this piece - but that ALSO comes from the Google Executive Wael Ghonim http://is.gd/5xjxdx who was creator of the online campaign that ignited the youth pro democracy movement in Egypt. It's too bad that guys like Topper seem to believe that the Brotherhood has any influence in Egypt. I don't need to check out videos in their language Topper I KNOW what they say, I know how much of it is pure hyperbole from personal experience. My parents were both born in Egypt, I and they speak Arabic at home, my mom is an American Jew and my dad is a Brit. I ve spent time in the M.E and perhaps being borderline Mensa I don't find it too difficult to be able to under both the truth of the message of the Brotherhood in Egypt and their limited impact & in far less influence on Egyptian life, politics, and foreign policy. All your fear mongering won't change the reality that you support a dictator who for 30 yrs has tortured Egyptians and kept them in poverty. So I guess we know which side of democracy you stand on. Its ok for democracy to be brought about in Iraq at gunpoint - which is far more likely within the next 5-8 yrs to fall into a theocratic regime - but when Egyptian people die for democracy without US Military involvement - then its all about the Muslim Brotherhood!

Big Peace : Signs Of Normal Life Reappear In Cairo, As Muslim Brotherhood Executes Next Steps Toward Turning Egy

The Egyptians themselves have said over and over again that they Egypt will never become fundamentalist - perhaps if more Americans spoke Arabic, spent time in Egypt, and understand the EGYPTIAN Arab - then you'd know how all these fears about an Islamified Egypt are beyond foolish - they speak of a complete ignorance about Egypt. Did you LISTEN to the Arabs this past week, even tonite on CNN, Al Jazeera, NBC, CBS, ABC - they have said " WE HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH ISRAEL. The Muslim Brotherhood WILL NOT CONTROL THIS COUNTRY . WE ARE NOT GOING TO ALLOW THEM. WE WANT DEMOCRACY" I'd give you the Arabic version but you wouldn't understand the language. The Egyptians have said on record that The Muslim Brotherhood is playing a very small role in this protest and will play an even smaller role in any new Gov't. My parents were born in Egypt - my Mom is an American Jew and my Dad is a Brit/Canadian --they speak fluent Arabic, I 've spent time in Egypt, Israel, I can speak Arabic as necessary. My parents friends all came from Egypt and many have friends and family in Egypt - they cannot believe the incredulous amount of fear mongering and utter ignorance that comes from the mouths of Americans who have NEVER set foot in the Egypt and no nothing about the Country. Egypt is NOT Iran. NOR will it become Iran. What kills me is how many of you fail to understand that the fragile experiment in Iraq is far more dangerous than what is going on in Egypt and that the gov't of Iraq has a far greater chance of being a fundamentalist regime than Egypt ever will. Now there's a reality that few Americans will ever admit - makes you cringe, doesnt it. OMG you say how can it be -- after all WE invaded Iraq. WE set the Iraqis free. WE have won over the hearts and minds of Iraqis. We have shown them a better alternative to Saddam. Well.Awesome. So when Americans "liberate" an Arab nation - then its gov't could NEVER become an Islamist state like Iran. But the Egyptians-- on their own-- initiate a 'regime change' and by god the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD WILL TAKE OVER AND CREATE AN ISLAMIST NATION. So instead of worrying about a Muslim Brotherhood that won't dare flex its fundamentalism in a land where an uprising of this magnitude has just occurred and will- in a short time- have overthrown a 30 yr dictatorship without the intervention of the American or British Military - you'd be wiser to be deeply concerned about Iraq! The Muslim Brotherhood will hold NO fundamentalist sway over Egyptians. ANY party that even thinks of moving in that direction and instituting anything short of a socialist democracy will suffer the same fate Hosni Mubarak as suffered this week ---if not worse.

Big Peace : What Do the Egyptian Crowds Want? Caliphate Dreams and Strict Sharia

Polls taken years ago are irrelevant today. A "Rigorous" poll of only 1000 Muslims in a country with a population of approx 83million - is neither rigorous nor a portrait of what Egyptians want. The entire region is in a state of change at this moment in history and the situation is Egypt is very complicated and complex - most Egyptians are talking about wanting freedom and democracy but they don't know who will truly provide them with that - nor do they fully understand the great individual responsibility that comes with freedom and democracy. All we know for sure that is Egyptians are so angry at Mubarak rule and they want him out NOW --- but they don't really know who they want to replace him. El Baradei is a choice by many Egyptians as an interim short term transitional gov't leader -- but history has proven that transitional tends to become permanent....which is reason for concern. Like Nassar-- Mubarak believes that any talk of democracy, or of a multi-party system, or of the withdrawal of the army from politics, would allow the Muslim Brotherhood and the other political parties to regain the ground they had lost in 1952. But Mubarak has not been kind to his people - leaving them in poverty while he and his chosen people lived in luxury. The Military is highly respected and very much loved in Egypt - and now Mubarak has appointed 2 men with strong links to the Military as VP and PM, so along with Mubarak the top 3 positions in Egyptian gov't have strong links to a beloved Military which is where the real power is. Mubarak's family is in the UK - some perceive that as a signal that his days are numbered and he'll be gone soon - but others say he's staying. As for the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan whose leader warned Saturday that unrest in Egypt will spread across the Mideast and Arabs will topple leaders allied with the United States --- if you really knew Arabs - you'd know most of this is pure bluster....the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan has remained largely loyal to King Abdullah who is a strong ally of the US. Maybe if most people got off the internet and spent time in the Arab countries, learned the language and learned its history - they'd be better informed and their opinions would be worthy of consideration and they'd realize that Andrew Bostom has little credibility when it comes to discussing Egypt, the people of Egypt or frankly anything about the Middle East. Most of his work is simply compiling quotes and thoughts about radical islam from others - there's no real world experience of his own in much of what he writes about -- Andrew Bostom apparently felt the need to disregard another finding from the poll he references " Most view globalization positively and favor democracy and freedom of religion" In truth - that may be the ONLY part of that poll that truly reflects want an overwhelming majority of Egyptians really want!
