Paul Kedrosky: Infectious Greed : Curation is the New Search is the New Curation

Paul, Nice post. However, I think the jury is still far out on user curation. Many colleagues and friends are starting to say, "Twitter is too overwhelming with stuff." Read the comments on 90% of the sites that aren't yours or another very intellectual crowd, and it's nothing more than shouting. I think the irony is we are starting to head back to a place where the masses are begging the gatekeepers to curate the tsunami for them. Dostoyevsky can be applied to anything ;) You are a human curator. You are having a lot of (deserved) success. And sites like The Week, The Daily Beast, Huffington Post, and others have been curating very well for a few years now. I have much less optimism about social curation because people are the same whether they are online or offline. And the bell curve still matters. Thanks again for the thought provoking post :) Damien

Wall St. Cheat Sheet : Sell, Sell, Sell: SEC Investigating Jim Cramer's TheStreet.com

Given the videos of Cramer still telling people to buy stocks in Jan 2008 (easily found on YouTube), I don't think he nailed the banking crisis. Here is a nice look at Cramer's picks: <a href="http://online.barrons.com/article/SB1233971073996..." target="_blank">http://online.barrons.com/article/SB1233971073996...

Not sure I follow you. I don't think anyone calling for an emergency rate cut to protect their portfolio is prescient. It's simply talking your book. If permabulls like Cramer had their way, the Fed would cut rates every time their picks were down 20%. I have many posts on this site linking to the Barron's studies of Cramer's calls. His track record is awful. That is indisputable.

David, I couldn't agree with you more. In fact, if you read my email exchange with Cramer, you will see I was once a Cramer fan. But once he started Mad Money, it was all downhill from there. There are many talented writers who got their start at TSCM. I feel bad they are associated with TSCM management and Cramer's circus show. Thanks for stopping by, David!

"Icahn has shown that he is a volatile megalomaniac who will not hesitate to knife the companies that he toys with, or their shareholders." Exactly. That's the point of this post. Thanks for explaining to those who are in love with Carl.

No one said he was concerned with our opinions. The point is he is held out as an amazing investor, and his track record has blown. This isn't nonsense, it's fact. It's all public record. Maybe you have it memorized, but most people don't and we think it's a very interesting insight. Of course my account is not as large as his. Why would that matter? What journalist should meet that criteria to point out that a big time investor has been on a major cold streak? In fact, if we take your logic, then all journalists should stop reporting because they would never be as "experienced" as those they cover. But almost everyone understands that's not the point of journalism.
