Corbett did nothing for the residents of the 1500 block of D Avenue when he lived there. He moved out. I know, I lived across the street from him. Never saw him mow his lawn or shovel the sidewalk from snow. Never encountered him at Polk Elementary for any event, even though his children apparently went there. Never saw him at Coe... Is he the invisible mayor?

It gets even more insane... According to a story on KGAN, the CR council is considering three locations for a new central fire station... Taco Bell on First ave, the Emerald Knights building, and the History Center (across from Taco Bell) Taco Bell & EK buildings are about worthless... but the History Center???? That would be NUTS!

Yup, Greene's Opera House, the ORCB building, > where that moronic "tree" now stands, the Bever mansion and others along First Ave. All gone. The other parking garage on 1st street, with the decaying spiral ramp > notice the crumbling concrete and exposed re-bar?< has only one floor being used. Heck, there's almost no reason to go downtown anyway. It just strikes me as so sad that the mentality of demoliton still seems to predominate CR.

depends on your street... here, I set out an orange cone in the middle of the street and sit on the porch, keeping an eye on the kids. Stupid drivers nearly ignore a Linn Co. Deputy that lives next door with a fully marked car. sometimes, (the kids) they run around back, into an easement while I'm grilling burgers for them. Seems from what I've read, these "trail people" are a bunch of whiners. Hire some teens that need jobs to go pickup dog poop or litter. Better yet, get out and pick it up yourself.

Spiraling downhill, I'd say. Tear it down and use the concrete for better levees. Put in some greenspace, a steamboat casino and voila! Problemo solved. Cops wouldn't have far to go, 2-3 courthouses right nearby. Smulekoffs might enjoy a park across the street, instead of a rusty old parkade. If Alliant needs more parking, they should just buy up all those junky stores on 1street and 3rd Ave, and put in their own skywalk to/fro their own ramp. If they want a skateboard park, put one in Noelridge. Plenty of kids would love that. Better examine the bad traffic at Council, Golf and 42nd street first. Harding Middle School entry/exitway is a nightmare. No bikepaths, barely enough room for two lanes of traffic.

No, did I say that, NO. I'm not part of the "group" that wants to save it. It just seems like a place that has potential for something. I simply think the church should think about restoring it, rather than trashing it. Obviously, it's their property and they can do what they want.

There are plenty of other junky homes that could be turned into green-space right around this one. Lots of slum-lords, scuzzy tennants and such. At the same time, there are lots of long time residents/homeowners/renters that would love to see some improvements. Look at the Paul Engle Art Center... It's much nicer than it was a few years ago.
