GazetteOnline.com : City seeks $12.2 million in I-JOBS funds for amphitheater, fire stations

What the hell do we need with an amphitheater when the Council wants a $$$ 67 MILLION dollar "event center" ??? Other than a few garage sales, antique shows and an occasional concert and a dart tournament, this is no "destination"... Corbett couldn't improve a little neighborhood when he lived in the 1500 block of D Avenue NE, and now he's in charge of the entire city? Heaven help us!!!

GazetteOnline.com : Commission questions cost for Sinclair date block

These people are kooks... one minute they're trying to save an UGLY smokestack, the next minute they're moving a huge brick to the History Center and complaining about the cost!? For pete's sake, the block apparently only has a date on it and no "real" historical reference. Tour guide to schoolchildren: "See that 1929 block? That came from a meat factory where hundreds, perhaps thousands of cattle were killed by your great-grandparents." I'm not a vegan or an animal rights looney, but the stories coming out of this demo are just absurd. Nothing was saved from the WTC after 9-11 and these folks are diddling around with a cement block? Only in America.

KCRG : City Council Hires Architect Team to Design $67 Million Event Center in Cedar Rapids | KCRG-TV9 | Ce

I don't think the Five Seasons/US Cell Center has ever turned a profit, just like the Crowne Plaza. Unless memory escapes me, I could count on one hand the conventions & events that ever came close. Did Tim Boyle ever garner a profitable convention prior to the flood when he was director of the Convention & Visitor's bureau? I doubt it. Most concerts avoid Cedar Rapids like the plague for a variety of reasons.

What happened to that big convention/event center out off of Wiley Blvd? What will happen to the 3rd Street SE & 380 entrance exit ramps? How will semi-trucks and busses get in and out of the US Cell center/new convention center and Quaker Oats?

GazetteOnline.com : The future of Lake Delhi is in limbo

I've read that this dam is/was privately owned. True or false? Who owns the highway that ran on top of it? Who, if anyone, was overseeing it when the lake began to rise? Most dams have some sort of spillway that can be opened when the pressure behind the dam becomes threatning. Did that happen? From what I've also read, this dam was a hydro-electric generator at one time. What happened to that?

6033_CedarRapidsCSDWages.xls From the Linn County Auditor's office. 2009 base salaries. I'm all in favor of rewarding teachers/staff for a job well done, but if you'd like to see some excessive salaries... call 319-5300 (Linn County Auditor) and request this file. Marion, and I believe Linn-Mar, are available as well. Over $88,000 for a middle school tennis coach and principals are at over $100,000.
